FIRST PITCH
After opening their season this past weekend at the Branson Leadoff Classic, the Arkansas Tech softball team is set to make its home debut this Tuesday as they will take on NFCA preseason ranked No. 7 Augustana.
 
The doubleheader is slated to begin at 11 a.m. on Tuesday.
 
The Golden Suns and Vikings have met four times historically with the last coming in 2022. In terms of the all-time series record, the series is tied 2-2, but Augustana has won the last two.
 
TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Golden Suns enter this mid-week doubleheader at home against No. 7-ranked Augustana with an overall record of 4-1. All five of those games took place this past weekend as the Golden Suns took part in the Branson Leadoff Classic.
 
Entering play against Augie, the Golden Suns are hitting .282 as a team (35-for-124) with 30 runs scored, five doubles, one triple and no home runs.
 
Sadie Turner currently leads the team in batting average at .615 (8-for-13). Turner has also provided the most power production thus far with a .692 slugging percentage thanks to a double to go along with her seven singles. Kacie Gibbins and Caroline Wilhelm pace the team in RBIs with seven apiece.
 
Maycie Hardy leads the team in runs scored with six.
 
In the circle, the Golden Suns have a team ERA of 3.35 and have struck out 32 batters in 31.1 innings of work.
 
Bradi Basler, Alexis Findley and Aly White have appeared in three games with Basler and Findley making multiple starts this season. Findley has the most starts with three. Aidan Dayberry has also made an appearance in relief for Tech as part of their four-person pitching staff.
 
Findley is currently 2-0 and has posted a 1.75 ERA and struck out 12 in 12.0 innings of work. Basler is 2-1 with a 3.50 ERA and has 11 strikeouts in 12.0 innings.
 
Leading the Golden Suns is Jordon Jones. In her third season as head coach of the Golden Suns, Jones has amassed a 58-46 record at Tech and twice led the team to the conference tournament. Prior to coming to Tech, Jones had head coaching stops at the NAIA level at Central Baptist in Conway and MidAmerica Nazarene in Kansas. Overall, her career record is 211-122.
 
SCOUTING NO. 7 AUGUSTANA
The preseason No. 7-ranked Vikings are off to a 3-3 start to their season. Playing all six of their games thus far this past weekend, Augustana bounced back from losing their first three games to winning their last three. In their three losses thus far, the Vikings have totaled three runs. In their wins, they have combined to score 37.
 
Entering play against Tech, the Crimson Storm are hitting .272 as a team (43-for-158) with 40 runs scored, 10 doubles, two triples and seven home runs.
 
Desi Cuevas currently leads the team in batting average at .550 (11-for-20). Cuevas also has provided the biggest power threat thus far for the Vikings and leads the team with a 1.200 slugging percentage thanks to a double and a team-high four home runs. She also paces the team in RBIs with seven.
 
In the circle, the Vikings have a team ERA of 2.78 and have struck out 35 batters in 35.2 innings of work.
 
Grace Glanzer and Lexi Lander have split starting responsibilities with three apiece. Glanzer is 1-2 with a 1.93 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 18.2 innings. Lander is 2-1 with a 3.65 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 12.1 innings.
 
Leading the Vikings is Gretta Melsted, who is in her 19th season as head coach at Augustana. In her time at Augie, Melsted is 735-275.
