TIPPING OFF
It all comes down one final game to determine who will earn the No. 8-seed in the upcoming Great American Conference Tournament, and that win-and-in contest will take place in Tucker Coliseum this Saturday afternoon between Arkansas Tech and Southern Arkansas.
 
This will be 192nd meeting all-time between Tech and Southern Arkansas. In a series that dates back to the 1927-28 season, Tech and SAU have played each other multiple times a year consistently as conference rivals. Overall, Tech holds a 110-81 advantage in the series.

TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Wonder Boys are 11-16 overall and 8-13 in the GAC. They are coming off a 64-58 win on the road at Henderson State this past Thursday night to give them their second-straight win and put them in a win-and-in scenario for their final regular season game at home against Southern Arkansas this Saturday.
 
Statistically, the Wonder Boys average 65.4 ppg and rank 11th in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Wonder Boys rank first in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 65.7 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Wonder Boys are 11th in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .428 (636-of-1,486) and allow their opponents to shoot at a .425 mark (618-of-1,455) to rank first.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Wonder Boys shoot at a clip of .295 (164-of-556) to rank 11th in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .342 (196-of-573) to rank seventh. From the free throw line, the Wonder Boys shoot .713 as a team (331-of-464) to rank ninth.
 
Individually, the Wonder Boys have one player averaging double figures in scoring and are led by Cassius Brooks and his 18.8 ppg. Two other players are averaging at least 8.0 ppg as well.
 
Seybian Sims is the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 7.6 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, Kade Shaffer leads the team and is averaging 3.8 assists per game.
 
Defensively, the Wonder Boys are led in steals by Brooks at 1.7 steals per game and in blocks by Albright Obode and Sean Cobb at 0.7 blocks per game.
 
The Wonder Boys are coached by Mark Downey, who is in his fifth season back on the sidelines at Tech after a 10-year hiatus. In his first stint, Downey patrolled the sidelines at Tech for four seasons from 2006-07 - 2009-10. In his final season, Downey guided the Wonder Boys to a program-record 30 wins and during that season, the Wonder Boys were ranked No. 1 in NCAA DII for the first time ever.
 
In his time at Tech, which is now in its ninth season overall, Downey has amassed a 146-110 record. Overall, Downey is in his 18th season as a head coach and has career record of 312-216.
 
SCOUTING THE MULERIDERS
Southern Arkansas is 12-15 overall and 9-12 in conference play. The Muleriders have lost their last two games and enter the final game of the regular season in sole possession of eighth place in the GAC standings and in-line for the final spot in the upcoming conference tournament. In order for them to secure that bid, SAU has to beat Tech on Saturday. A loss and the Muleriders will not qualify for the tournament.
 
Statistically, the Muleriders average 73.9 ppg and rank eighth in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Muleriders rank seventh in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 72.7 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Muleriders are 10th in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .431 (718-of-1,664) and allow their opponents to post a .447 mark (709-of-1,587) to rank seventh.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Muleriders shoot at a clip of .329 (232-of-706) to rank seventh in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .332 (182-of-549) to rank third. From the free throw line, the Muleriders shoot .728 as a team (326-of-448) to rank seventh.
 
Individually, the Muleriders have four players averaging double figures in scoring and are led by BJ Davis and his 12.3 ppg. Carel Ray Jr. is next at 12.1 ppg followed by Anthony Igiede at 11.6 ppg. Christian Caldwell rounds out double-figure scoring at 10.3 ppg.
 
Igiede is the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 5.6 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, Davis leads the team and is averaging 2.9 assists per game.
 
Defensively, the Muleriders are led in steals by Igiede at 1.5 steals per game and in blocks by Rashad Bishop and Igiede at 0.9 blocks per game.
 
The Muleriders are coached by Mark Rutledge, who is in his first season at Southern Arkansas. In his time at SAU, Rutledge is 12-15.
