FIRST PITCH
The Arkansas Tech softball team will remain on the road this weekend for their second-straight conference series of the year. This road trip sends Tech to Magnolia to take on Southern Arkansas.
The three-game series is slated to begin with a single game on Friday starting at 5 p.m. It will then conclude with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
The Golden Suns and Muleriders have met 80 times historically in a series that started in 2004. In terms of the all-time series record, Arkansas Tech holds a 47-33 lead over Southern Arkansas.
The two teams met four times last season with a three-game series being played in Russellville and once in the GAC Tournament. Tech swept the conference series, but had their season ended by SAU in the conference tournament.
TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Golden Suns enter this weekend at Southern Arkansas with an overall record of 10-8 overall and 2-1 in conference play. They are coming off a series win at Northwestern Oklahoma in their first conference series of the year as they won the second and third games of the series.
Entering play this weekend, the Golden Suns are hitting .284 as a team (133-for-469) with 94 runs scored, 29 doubles, three triples and three home runs.
Savannah Snow currently leads the team in batting average at .400 (22-for-55).
Sadie Turner has the highest slugging percentage on the team at .449 thanks to four doubles to go along with her 14 singles.
Kacie Gibbins and
Caroline Wilhelm pace the team in RBIs with 14.
Anna Winkfield is the third Golden Sun with double-digit RBIs.
Gibbins is tied for the most extra-base hits on the team with
Maycie Hardy at six. All six of
Gibbins' extra-base hits are doubles while
Hardy has five doubles and a home run.
Hardy also leads the team in runs scored with 19.
In the circle, the Golden Suns have a team ERA of 3.64 and have struck out 116 batters in 117.1 innings of work.
Bradi Basler,
Alexis Findley and
Aly White have appeared in at least eight games and made at least one start.
Findley has the most starts with 10, followed by
Basler with seven and
White with one.
Aidan Dayberry and
Ainslee Moore have also made relief appearances for Tech as part of their five-person pitching staff.
Findley is currently 5-3 and has posted a 2.61 ERA and struck out 60 in 51.0 innings of work.
Basler is 3-4 with a 5.93 ERA and has 29 strikeouts in 30.2 innings.
White is 2-0 with a 2.96 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 26.0 innings.
Leading the Golden Suns is
Jordon Jones. In her third season as head coach of the Golden Suns,
Jones has amassed a 64-53 record at Tech and twice led the team to the conference tournament. Prior to coming to Tech,
Jones had head coaching stops at the NAIA level at Central Baptist in Conway and MidAmerica Nazarene in Kansas. Overall, her career record is 218-132.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN ARKANSAS
Southern Arkansas is off to a 10-5 overall start to their season and are 2-1 in GAC play. The Muleriders are coming off a series win at home against Southern Nazarene this past weekend. SAU would win the first two games, but dropped the finale, 3-0.
Entering play against Tech, the Muleriders are hitting .239 as a team (90-for-376) with 64 runs scored, 16 doubles, two triple and seven home runs.
Cassidy Lear currently leads the team in batting average at .278 (10-for-36).
Regan Dillon leads the team in slugging percentage at .488 thanks to three doubles and two home runs.
Dillon is currently one of three Muleriders tied for the team lead in RBIs with eight.
Kelsie Adams and
Jocelyn Ulrich also have eight RBIs.
America Rubio leads the team in runs scored with nine.
In the circle, the Muleriders have a team ERA of 2.18 and have struck out 85 batters in 99.2 innings of work.
Four pitchers have started a game for the Muleriders with three of those making multiple starts.
Brinson Rogers has made the most starts thus far with eight and has appeared in 10 games overall. She is 6-2 with a 1.58 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 48.2 innings.
Jaycie Hall has made the second-most starts with four and has appeared in six games overall. She is 1-1 with a 3.23 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 17.1 innings.
Leading the Muleriders is
Jason Anderson, who is in his 11th season as head coach at Southern Arkansas and his 18
th overall. In his time at SAU,
Anderson is 408-146 and is 715-219 overall.
