ALVA, Okla. – The Arkansas Tech softball team picked up a series win in their conference-opener on the road at Northwestern Oklahoma behind a dominant pitching performance by
Alexis Findley in the rubber game on Sunday.
Findley had faced two over the minimum and would carry a no-hitter into the bottom of the seventh. Prior to that final inning, Findley had also racked up 13 strikeouts.
In search of her second no-hitter of the season, Findley got the first out of the bottom of the seventh inning before the Rangers broke it up on an infield single to second. The Rangers then pushed across their lone run of the game in the next at-bat, but the second out of the inning came on the same play.
Findley then registered her 14
th strikeout to end the game, 3-1.
Those three runs in support of Findley's masterpiece saw the Golden Suns score single runs in the first, the third and fifth innings.
In the first,
Kacie Gibbins drove in
Sadie Turner on an infield single. Turner had led the frame off with a double down the left field line.
The runs in the third and fifth innings were driven in by
Caroline Wilhelm. In the third, Wilhelm singled up the middle to score Gibbins. In the fifth, Wilhelm hit a sacrifice fly to score
Maycie Hardy, who led off the inning with a single.
The Golden Suns will now prepare for another road conference series this coming weekend as they will travel to Magnolia to take on Southern Arkansas. The series is slated to start at 5 p.m. on Friday, February 28.
