FIRST PITCH
The Arkansas Tech softball team is set to begin Great American Conference play this weekend and will do so on the road at Northwestern Oklahoma.
 
The three-game series is slated to begin with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. It will then conclude with a single game on Sunday starting at 11 a.m.
 
The Golden Suns and Rangers have met 37 times historically in a series that started in 2013. In terms of the all-time series record, Arkansas Tech holds a 28-9 lead over Northwestern Oklahoma.
 
The two teams met three times last season with a three-game series being played in Russellville. Tech swept the series.
 
TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Golden Suns enter this weekend at Northwestern Oklahoma with an overall record of 8-7 and are coming off a doubleheader sweep of Northeastern State at home this past Sunday. Across both games, the Golden Suns did not yield a run, winning 8-0 in five innings in the first game and 1-0 in the second game.
 
Entering play this weekend, the Golden Suns are hitting .275 as a team (106-for-386) with 73 runs scored, 21 doubles, one triple and two home runs.
 
Savannah Snow currently leads the team in batting average at .413 (19-for-46). Snow also has the highest slugging percentage on the team at .457 thanks to a pair of doubles to go along with her 17 singles. Kacie Gibbins paces the team in RBIs with 12, followed closely behind by Caroline Wilhelm with 11. Gibbins is tied for the most extra-base hits on the team with Maycie Hardy at five. All five of Gibbins' extra-base hits are doubles while Hardy has four doubles and a home run.
 
Hardy also leads the team in runs scored with 16.
 
In the circle, the Golden Suns have a team ERA of 3.16 and have struck out 85 batters in 97.1 innings of work.
 
Bradi Basler, Alexis Findley and Aly White have appeared in at least seven games and made at least one start. Findley has the most starts with eight, followed by Basler with six and White with one. Aidan Dayberry has also made four appearances in relief for Tech as part of their four-person pitching staff.
 
Findley is currently 4-2 and has posted a 1.94 ERA and struck out 38 in 39.2 innings of work. Basler is 2-4 with a 5.77 ERA and has 25 strikeouts in 26.2 innings. White is 2-0 with a 2.75 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 23.0 innings.
 
Leading the Golden Suns is Jordon Jones. In her third season as head coach of the Golden Suns, Jones has amassed a 62-52 record at Tech and twice led the team to the conference tournament. Prior to coming to Tech, Jones had head coaching stops at the NAIA level at Central Baptist in Conway and MidAmerica Nazarene in Kansas. Overall, her career record is 216-131.
 
SCOUTING NORTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA
Northwestern Oklahoma is off to a 3-5 start to their season. They are set to play their first games since the weekend of February 7-8. That weekend, the Rangers played four games and went 1-3. Their win was a 10-2 victory in five innings against Midwestern State.
 
Entering play against Tech, the Rangers are hitting .347 as a team (68-for-196) with 34 runs scored, 11 doubles, three triple and three home runs.
 
Kennedi Caine currently leads the team in batting average at .524 (11-for-21). Jadyn Muns leads the team in slugging percentage at .640 thanks to a double, a triple and a home run. Muns is currently tied with Rachel Sherwood in leading the team in RBIs with seven. Caine and Muns also are tied for the lead in runs scored with five apiece.
 
In the circle, the Rangers have a team ERA of 3.95 and have struck out 32 batters in 44.1 innings of work.
 
Chloe Brown and Katryn Jones have split the primary starting duties for Northwestern Oklahoma early on as each are the only ones to make multiple starts. Brown has made the most starts thus far with four and has appeared in the five. She is 2-1 with a 1.24 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 22.2 innings. Jones has made three starts and appeared in four games. She is 1-2 with a 5.69 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 16.0 innings.
 
Leading the Rangers is Casady Webb, who is in her third season as head coach at Northwestern Oklahoma. In her time at NWOSU, Webb is 33-75.
