Golden Suns use dominant fourth quarter to beat Ouachita Baptist, 63-53

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech women's basketball team won their second-straight game at home on Saturday afternoon as they beat Ouachita Baptist, 63-53, thanks to a dominant fourth quarter.

Trailing after the first quarter and by as much as 11 points early in the second quarter, the Golden Suns roared back to take a slim one-point lead at the 4:41 mark of the period. That lead was short-lived, however, as Ouachita scored on their next trip down the court.

The Tigers then went on to push their lead back out as high as seven by the 2:18 mark. The Golden Suns would close out the remainder of the half on a 9-2 run to send the game to half with a tie score at 29-all.

The score remained deadlocked through the end of the third quarter as each team scored 15 points.

Knotted at 44-all, Ouachita scored first on the initial possession of the fourth quarter, but the Golden Suns had an immediate response and took the lead on a three-pointer by Hayleigh Wyrick. That proved to be final lead change of the game as the Golden Suns went on to take complete control of the game.

Leading by just a point, 49-48, at the 5:08 mark, the Golden Suns went on a 9-0 run to push their lead out to double digits for the first time in the game. The lead would grow as large as 13 points before ending with a 10-point victory.

The Golden Suns were led in scoring by Dessie McCarty and her season-high 18 points. McCarty was highly efficient in her scoring as she was 7-of-8 overall from the floor and 4-of-5 from the free throw line in 15 minutes off the bench. Julie Wagner was next with 16 points. She was also efficient with 6-of-7 shooting overall and 4-of-4 from the free throw line. Wagner also added 10 rebounds to notch her third double-double of the season.

The Golden Suns will now prepare for another week of home games, starting with a Thursday night game against Southeastern Oklahoma. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. from inside Tucker Coliseum.
