TIPPING OFF
The Arkansas Tech men's basketball team is looking to get back on track on Thursday night as they will be on the road at Arkansas-Monticello for their final Great American Conference game ahead of the Christmas break.
 
This will be the 177th meeting all-time between Tech and Arkansas-Monticello. The series began in 1929 and the two have played regularly every year since as conference rivals. Overall, Tech leads the series 114-62.
 
Tip-off for is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. from the Steelman Fieldhouse on the campus of Arkansas-Monticello.

TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Wonder Boys are 4-6 overall and 2-2 in Great American Conference play. They are coming off a heartbreaking 84-80 loss at home in double overtime to Southern Arkansas this past Monday.
 
Statistically, the Wonder Boys average 73.6 ppg and rank 10th in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Wonder Boys rank eighth in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 72.1 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Wonder Boys are 10th in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .450 (262-of-582). Their opponents are shooting at a .412 mark (240-of-582) to rank fourth.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Wonder Boys shoot at a clip of .331 (80-of-242) to rank seventh in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .283 (67-of-237) to rank second. From the free throw line, the Wonder Boys shoot .706 as a team (132-of-187) to rank seventh.
 
Individually, the Wonder Boys have two players averaging double figures in scoring and are led by Sam Bradford and his 13.3 ppg. David Elliott IV is next in scoring and rounds out double-figure scoring at 12.7 ppg.
 
Devin Foster is leading the team in rebounding and is averaging 5.5 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, Elliott IV leads the team and is averaging 2.7 assists per game.
 
Defensively, the Wonder Boys are led in steals by Elliott IV and Bradford at 1.5 steals per game and in blocks by Underdown at 1.0 blocks per game.
 
The Wonder Boys are coached by Mark Downey, who is in his sixth season back on the sidelines at Tech after a 10-year hiatus. In his first stint, Downey patrolled the sidelines at Tech for four seasons from 2006-07 - 2009-10. In his final season, Downey guided the Wonder Boys to a program-record 30 wins and during that season, the Wonder Boys were ranked No. 1 in NCAA DII for the first time ever.
 
In his time at Tech, which is now in its 10th season overall, Downey has amassed a 151-117 record. Overall, Downey is in his 19th season as a head coach and has career record of 317-223.
 
SCOUTING THE BOLL WEEVILS
Arkansas-Monticello is 4-6 overall and 0-4 in the GAC. They are coming off a 68-55 loss on the road at Ouachita Baptist this past Saturday and have lost their last four.
 
Statistically, the Boll Weevils average 67.9 ppg and rank 12th in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Boll Weevils rank third in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 67.1 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Boll Weevils are eighth in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .460 (246-of-535) and allow their opponents to post a .413 mark (235-of-569) to rank fifth.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Boll Weevils shoot at a clip of .337 (64-of-190) to rank sixth in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .292 (64-of-219) to rank sixth. From the free throw line, the Boll Weevils shoot .741 as a team (123-of-166) to rank fourth.
 
Individually, the Boll Weevils have four players averaging double figures in scoring and are led by Isaac Jackson and his 15.5 ppg. Josh Smith is next at 14.3 ppg followed by Jakob Zenon at 14.1 ppg. Ashton Price rounds out double-figure scoring at 11.6 pgg.
 
Smith is the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 6.4 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, Giancarlo Valdez leads the team and is averaging 3.2 assists per game.
 
Defensively, the Boll Weevils are led in steals by Zenon at 1.1 steals per game and in blocks by Smith at 1.0 blocks per game.
 
The Boll Weevils are coached by Chad Tapp, who is in his fifth season at Arkansas-Monticello and his 16th overall. In his time at UAM, Tapp is 42-80 and has a 207-240 overall record.
