Box Score MONTICELLO, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech volleyball team got back in the win column on Tuesday night as they swept Arkansas-Monticello on the road, 3-0.
The bookend sets were closely played, and both went beyond the 25-point threshold.
In the first set, the largest lead for either team was five points. The Golden Suns were the ones who achieved that lead, doing so at 16-11. UAM then ripped off four-straight points to not let the set get away and pulled within a point, 16-15. Tech remained in the lead until a 5-0 run by the Cotton Blossoms turned a two-point deficit into a two-point lead, 21-19.
The Golden Suns answered back with three-straight points to regain the lead, 22-21. After a point by UAM, the Golden Suns scored consecutive points to get to set-point, 24-22. The Cotton Blossoms staved off a pair of set-points and tied the set at 24-all, but consecutive kills from
Millie Allgood gave the Golden Suns the set, 26-24.
Set two was close early, but the Golden Suns were able to get separation from UAM after breaking a 10-all tie. Tech would go on a 4-0 run during that stretch to give them their largest lead of the match to that point. Leading by that margin at 18-14, the Golden Suns went on a 5-0 run to bring their lead to its apex of nine points, 23-14. Tech eventually claimed the set, 25-17.
The third set saw the Golden Suns race out to a 5-0 lead at the outset, but UAM would not fold and eventually tied the set at 11-all and then grabbed their first lead at 14-13. The Cotton Blossoms scored the next point to give UAM their largest lead of the match at two points.
The remainder of the set was back and forth and neither team held a lead larger than a point until the Golden Suns scored consecutive points to win the set, 27-25, and the match, 3-0.
The Golden Suns will now prepare for a home match on Thursday night against Southern Arkansas. First-serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
