ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech volleyball team played their final road match of the regular season on Tuesday night at league-leading Ouachita Baptist and fell to the Tigers 3-0.
Overall, attack errors hindered Arkansas Tech against Ouachita as the Golden Suns committed a season-high for a three-set match with 25. On the other end, Ouachita committed just seven errors with only three coming over the final two sets.
The opening set saw Ouachita take the first significant lead as they used a 5-0 burst to go up by four points, 8-4. The Golden Suns were able to get within a couple of points on two occasions midway through the set, but the Tigers kept them at arm's length.
The Golden Suns had one more big push in them in that first set and went from being down 15-11 to down by just a point, 17-16. Unfortunately, that was as close as the Golden Suns would get as Ouachita scored four-straight after that to push their lead back out to a comfortable five points, 21-16. The Tigers would eventually take the set, 25-21.
In the second set, the Golden Suns were out to the first lead at 5-2, but an 11-2 run by Ouachita surged them ahead 13-7. The Tigers then had a second big run not long after, scoring nine of the next 11 points to go up 22-9. They would close out the set, 25-10.
The Tigers carried the momentum over into the third set and used a 6-0 run to break a four-all tie and go up 10-4. Ouachita maintained a comfortable lead the rest of the set and got it to double digits before ending it 25-15.
Tech was led offensively by
Henley Hooks as she had 10 kills.
Savannah Meyer was next with six.
Samantha Wojtowicz led the team in digs with 15 and
Kenzie Garrett had the most assists with 14.
The Golden Suns will now prepare for their regular season finale at home on Thursday evening against Harding. The match is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. from inside Tucker Coliseum.
