ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Playing in their first game since prior to the Christmas break, the Arkansas Tech women's basketball team returned to the hardwood on Saturday afternoon on the road at Ouachita Baptist. Ouachita would have a hot-shooting first quarter that eventually led to them beating Tech by a score of 73-57.
The hot start to the game offensively for Ouachita saw the Tigers score 28 points on 11-of-19 shooting overall with four of those makes coming from long range. The Golden Suns did not have a bad offensive first quarter themselves as they shot 42.9% overall from the floor (6-of-14), but an early 8-0 run by the Tigers gave Ouachita enough of a gap to keep the Golden Suns at bay the rest of the way out.
The Golden Suns would battle back some in the second half and pulled within five points of the lead with 1:57 to go in the third quarter, but a strong fourth quarter by Ouachita thwarted any further threat of a Tech comeback.
The Golden Suns would have two players score in double figures and were led by
AbbiGrace Cunningham and her 15 points. It was her fourth-straight game scoring in double figures. In that time, Cunningham has raised her season scoring average from 6.3 ppg to 9.5 ppg.
Behind Cunningham in scoring was
Olivia Jones. She had 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting and was 2-of-3 from three-point range.
Madelyn Atkins added a season-high nine points off the bench to be the third-leading scorer.
The Golden Suns will now prepare for a week at home coming up as they will play Oklahoma Baptist this coming Thursday and then Southern Nazarene on Saturday. Tip-off against Oklahoma Baptist is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
