MONTICELLO, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech men's basketball team completed the season sweep of Arkansas-Monticello on the road on Saturday by beating UAM 48-40.
In the game, the Wonder Boys started to take control at the 14:04 mark. At that point, the Wonder Boys trailed by three, but started a 9-0 run over the next three minutes or so of action to flip the advantage in their favor by six points, 16-10.
That six-point lead gained by that run was the largest of the first half for the Wonder Boys, and it also represented the final lead change of the game. UAM was able to get within a point of the Tech lead at the end of the half, but the Wonder Boys would carry that slim advantage into the break.
Early action in the second half remained close, but the Wonder Boys managed to stay in the lead.
Leading by just a point, 29-28 at the 14:36 mark, the Wonder Boys would seize firm control of the game as they started a 12-0 run that lasted a little over three minutes and gave them a double-digit lead, 41-28.
The Boll Weevils were finally able to break the run at the 7:11 mark. That sparked an 8-0 run that got them as close five points of the lead by the 5:33 mark, but their scoring drought of nearly eight minutes prior was too much to overcome as the Wonder Boys eventually closed the game with an eight-point margin of victory.
The Wonder Boys only had one player score in double figures with
Cassius Brooks leading the way with 16 points. Brooks also paced the team in assists with four and tied for the team-lead in steals with three. Seven other Wonder Boys did score in the game with three having at least five points.
Seybian Sims led the team in rebounds with 12.
The Wonder Boys will now prepare to make a long-awaited return to Tucker Coliseum this coming Thursday night against Southwestern Oklahoma. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
