Golden Suns fall on the road at Southeastern Oklahoma

DURANT, Okla. – The Arkansas Tech women's basketball team lost on the road at Southeastern Oklahoma, 77-58, on Saturday afternoon.

Through the first 20 minutes of action, the Golden Suns were right in there with Southeastern and held a 34-33 lead into halftime. In those first two quarters, the Golden Suns were able to shot over 40% from the field and were also aided by 11-of-13 showing from the charity stripe.

Unfortunately, the third quarter was the difference in the game as Southeastern was able to out-score Tech 24-7 in the period. In that quarter, the Golden Suns were limited to 23% shooting overall and no free throw attempts while Southeastern shot over 50% from the field and were a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line.

The Golden Suns were able to find a little bit of footing offensively in the fourth quarter while also forcing Southeastern to miss 10 field goals, but that combination still did not lend itself to the Golden Suns being able to make a significant push of the lead as the Savage Storm were an unblemished 14-of-14 from the charity stripe in the final quarter to keep Tech at bay.

The Golden Suns had three players score in double figures with AbbiGrace Cunningham and Madelyn Atkins each having 13 points. Olivia Jones rounded out double-figure scoring with 11 points.

The Golden Suns will now prepare for a two more road games next week as they travel first to Searcy on Thursday night to take on Harding. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. from the Rhodes-Reeves Fieldhouse in Searcy.
