FIRST PITCH
The Arkansas Tech softball team is back at home this weekend after a six-game stretch on the road and will be taking on Southern Arkansas in a pivotal three-game conference series.
The series is scheduled to start on Thursday afternoon with a single-game starting at 5 p.m. A series-ending doubleheader is slated for a 1 p.m. start on Friday afternoon. All games will be played at the Chartwells Women's Sports Complex in Russellville.
The Golden Suns and Muleriders have met 76 times historically in a series that started in 2004. In terms of the all-time series record, Arkansas Tech holds a 44-32 lead over Southern Arkansas.
The two teams met three times last season with a three-game series being played in Magnolia. Tech won the series, winning the opener and finale.
TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Golden Suns enters this weekend series at home against Southern Arkansas with an overall record of 17-15 and a 9-11 mark in conference play. This past weekend, the Golden Suns were swept on the road at Arkansas-Monticello.
Entering play against SAU, the Golden Suns are hitting .242 as a team (198-for-817) with 135 runs scored, 44 doubles, six triples and six home runs.
Shelby Chavers currently leads the team in batting average at .300 (24-for-80).
Chavers has also provided the most power production thus far with a .425 slugging percentage thanks to four doubles and three triples.
Lexi Gorniak leads the team in RBIs with 17 while
Chavers leads the team in runs scored with 15. Three other Golden Suns have scored double-digit runs as well.
Sydney Keaton leads the team in home runs with two while the other five have come from a different source with
Gorniak,
Savannah Snow,
Aidan Gorton and
Hardy all having left the yard.
In the circle, the Golden Suns have a team ERA of 3.17 and have struck out 152 batters in 209.2 innings of work.
Bradi Basler,
Aidan Dayberry and
Alexis Findley have made multiple starts this season with
Basler having the most with 13.
Dayberry and
Findley are next with nine.
Jaycee McKee and
Ella Thornley have also made appearances in relief for Tech as part of their five-person pitching staff.
Basler is currently 7-4 and has posted a 3.36 ERA and struck out 56 in 66.2 innings of work.
Findley has the lowest ERA among the starters at 2.67. She is currently 2-5 with 45 strikeouts in 57.2 innings of work.
Dayberry is 4-3 with a 3.50 ERA with 33 strikeouts in 44.0 innings.
Leading the Golden Suns is
Jordon Jones. In her second season as head coach of the Golden Suns,
Jones is looking to build off her first year in which Tech posted a 28-24 overall record and were 17-15 in the Great American Conference. Prior to coming to Tech,
Jones had head coaching stops at the NAIA level at Central Baptist in Conway and MidAmerica Nazarene in Kansas. Overall, her career record is 198-113.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN ARKANSAS
Southern Arkansas enters this conference series at Tech with a 24-11 overall record and a 13-7 mark in conference play. The Muleriders are coming off a series sweep at home against Ouachita Baptist this past weekend.
Entering play against Tech, the Muleriders are hitting .283 as a team (260-for-920) with 169 runs scored, 47 doubles, eight triples and 30 home runs.
Regan Dillon currently leads the team in batting average at .362 (42-for-116).
Dillon is also the top overall power threat as she paces the team with a .716 slugging percentage thanks to 11 doubles and 10 home runs. Her 33 RBIs lead the team while her 22 runs scored are second behind
Ariana Rolle's 23. Two others have at least 20 RBIs.
In the circle, the Muleriders have a team ERA of 2.13 and have struck out 267 batters in 233.2 innings of work.
The Muleriders have had two pitchers start all but one of their games with
Sydney Ward making 18 starts and
Brinson Rogers with 16.
Ward is 11-5 with a 1.63 ERA and 95 strikeouts in 103.1 innings of work.
Rogers is 10-6 with a 1.70 ERA and has 139 strikeouts in 90.1 innings.
The Muleriders are led by
Jason Anderson, who in his 10
th season at Southern Arkansas and his 17
th overall. In his time at SAU,
Anderson is 388-133 and 695-206 overall.
