FIRST PITCH
The Arkansas Tech softball team is set to close out their 2024 regular season this weekend against (rv) Oklahoma Baptist out at the Chartwells Women's Sports Complex.
 
The series is scheduled to start on Friday afternoon with a single-game starting at 2 p.m. The series will conclude with a doubleheader that is slated for a noon start on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Golden Suns and Bison have met 27 times historically in a series that started in 2009. In terms of the all-time series record, Tech holds a 15-12 lead over Oklahoma Baptist.
 
The two teams met three times last season with a three-game series being played at a neutral site in Edmond. Oklahoma Baptist would sweep the series and held Golden Suns to just one run total.
 
TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Golden Suns enters their series at home against Oklahoma Baptist with an overall record of 25-17 and a 17-13 mark in conference play. The Golden Suns are coming off pivotal series sweep of Southeastern Oklahoma at home to clinch a spot in the upcoming GAC Tournament.
 
Entering play against Oklahoma Baptist, the Golden Suns are hitting .259 as a team (284-for-1,095) with 177 runs scored, 59 doubles, nine triples and nine home runs.
 
Maycie Hardy currently leads the team in batting average at .324 (36-for-111). Hardy has also provided the most power production thus far with a .477 slugging percentage thanks to eight doubles and three home runs. Sydney Keaton leads the team in RBIs with 19 while Chavers leads the team in runs scored with 21. Seven other Golden Suns have scored double-digit runs and eight have driven in double-digit runs.
 
Hardy leads the team in home runs with three while Sydney Keaton and Savannah Snow are right behind with two apiece. The other two homers on the team have come from Gorniak and Aidan Gorton.
 
In the circle, the Golden Suns have a team ERA of 2.89 and have struck out 197 batters in 283.0 innings of work.
 
Bradi Basler, Aidan Dayberry, Alexis Findley and Jaycee McKee have made multiple starts this season with Basler having the most with 15. Dayberry is next with 13 while Findley is one off at 11. Ella Thornley has also made appearances in relief for Tech as part of their five-person pitching staff.
 
Basler is currently 7-4 with two saves and has posted a 3.19 ERA and struck out 70 in 79.0 innings of work. Findley has the lowest ERA among the prominent starters at 2.40. She is currently 4-5 with 65 strikeouts in 81.2 innings of work. Dayberry is 6-4 with a 3.86 ERA with 37 strikeouts in 58.0 innings.
 
Leading the Golden Suns is Jordon Jones. In her second season as head coach of the Golden Suns, Jones is looking to build off her first year in which Tech posted a 28-24 overall record and were 17-15 in the Great American Conference. Prior to coming to Tech, Jones had head coaching stops at the NAIA level at Central Baptist in Conway and MidAmerica Nazarene in Kansas. Overall, her career record is 206-115.
 
SCOUTING OKLAHOMA BAPTIST
Oklahoma Baptist enters this conference series on the road at Tech with a 37-11 overall record and a 27-3 mark in conference play. The Bison have won last eight games played with their last loss coming on the road at Southern Nazarene back on April 9.
 
The Bison, who are receiving votes in the latest NFCA DII Top-25 rankings, have already secured the top-seed in the upcoming GAC Tournament.
 
Entering play against Tech, the Bison are hitting .290 as a team (354-for-1,222) with 263 runs scored, 67 doubles, 5 triples and 40 home runs.
 
Morgan Max currently leads the team in batting average at .388 (50-for-129). Ally Ryan is the top overall power threat as she paces the team with a .758 slugging percentage thanks to five doubles and 17 home runs. Ryan also leads the team in RBIs with 47. Max is second to Ryan in both homers with eight and RBIs with 40.
 
In the circle, the Bison have a team ERA of 1.94 and have struck out 348 batters in 318.1 innings of work.
 
The Bison have split their starting pitching duties between in Kayleigh Jones and Maggie Place. Jones leads the team in games started with 27 games while Place has 18.
 
Jones is 19-4 with a 1.79 ERA and 225 strikeouts in 164.1 innings of work. Place is 15-6 with a 1.94 ERA and has 76 strikeouts in 108.0 innings.
 
The Bison are led by Sam Maples, who in her sixth season at Oklahoma Baptist. In her time at Oklahoma Baptist, Maples is 166-114.
