RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech softball team saw their offense click in all facets on Monday and rode that momentum to a 6-3 comeback win over Southeastern Oklahoma to complete the three-game sweep.
The Golden Suns would total a season-high 14 hits against the Savage Storm on Monday, but the runs did not come until the bottom of the fourth. Trailing 3-0 after Southeastern struck for three runs in the top of the frame, the Golden Suns scored their first run on a RBI double from
Shelby Chavers.
An inning later, the Golden Suns exploded for five runs on four hits to take a 6-3 lead.
In that inning,
Maycie Hardy led off with a single through the right side.
Sydney Keaton then drew a four-pitch walk. Two pitches later, the bases were loaded with no outs as
Kacie Gibbins beat out a well-placed bunt to the catcher for a single.
Savannah Snow then came through with a big hit as she scorched a ball off the third baseman's glove to drive in both Hardy and Keaton. Following her two-RBI single,
Cora Skaggs was brought in as a pinch-runner.
Lexi Gorniak then moved Gibbins to third and Skaggs to second on a successful sacrifice bunt.
With two runners in scoring position and one out,
Adrianna Cooney came through just like Snow did with a two-run single as she ripped a ball through the five-hole of the Southeastern second baseman. Later in the inning, the Golden Suns scored their fifth run of the frame on a passed ball that allowed pinch-runner
Belen Sanchez to score.
That proved to be all of the scoring that would take place the rest of the game as
Bradi Basler put the clamps down on her second save in as many days, securing the win in relief for
Ella Thornley.
The Golden Suns will now prepare for their final weekend series of the regular season and will be at home against Oklahoma Baptist. The series is slated to start on Friday, April 26.
