FIRST PITCH
The Arkansas Tech softball team is back at home for the second-to-last weekend series of the regular season and are set to take on Southeastern Oklahoma out at the Chartwells Women's Sports Complex.
 
The series is scheduled to start on Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. The series will conclude with a single-game that is slated for a noon start on Monday afternoon.
 
The Golden Suns and Tigers have met 52 times historically in a series that started in 2009. In terms of the all-time series record, Southeastern Oklahoma holds a 27-25 lead over Tech.
 
The two teams met four times last season with a three-game series being played in Durant and the fourth coming in the Great American Conference Tournament. Southeastern would win all four games and held the Golden Suns to just four runs total.
 
TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Golden Suns enters their series at home against Southeastern Oklahoma with an overall record of 22-17 and a 14-13 mark in conference play. The Golden Suns are coming off a loss in their most-recent game as they concluded their season series with Harding this past Tuesday.
 
With two weekends left of conference play, the Golden Suns have yet to secure a spot in the upcoming GAC Tournament, but are in the hunt, currently in sixth place.
 
Entering play against Southeastern Oklahoma, the Golden Suns are hitting .250 as a team (254-for-1,016) with 163 runs scored, 52 doubles, seven triples and nine home runs.
 
Shelby Chavers currently leads the team in batting average at .311 (32-for-103). Maycie Hardy has provided the most power production thus far with a .464 slugging percentage thanks to seven doubles and three home runs. Hardy, Lexi Gorniak and Sydney Keaton are tied for the team-lead in RBIs with 17 each while Chavers leads the team in runs scored with 21. Six other Golden Suns have scored double-digit runs and driven in double-digit runs.
 
Hardy leads the team in home runs with three while Sydney Keaton and Savannah Snow are right behind with two apiece. The other two homers on the team have come from Gorniak and Aidan Gorton.
 
In the circle, the Golden Suns have a team ERA of 2.99 and have struck out 184 batters in 262.0 innings of work.
 
Bradi Basler, Aidan Dayberry and Alexis Findley have made multiple starts this season with Basler having the most with 15. Dayberry is next with 12 while Findley is one off at 11. Jaycee McKee and Ella Thornley have also made appearances in relief for Tech as part of their five-person pitching staff.
 
Basler is currently 7-4 and has posted a 3.39 ERA and struck out 65 in 74.1 innings of work. Findley has the lowest ERA among the starters at 2.47. She is currently 3-5 with 60 strikeouts in 73.2 innings of work. Dayberry is 6-4 with a 3.74 ERA with 37 strikeouts in 54.1 innings.
 
Leading the Golden Suns is Jordon Jones. In her second season as head coach of the Golden Suns, Jones is looking to build off her first year in which Tech posted a 28-24 overall record and were 17-15 in the Great American Conference. Prior to coming to Tech, Jones had head coaching stops at the NAIA level at Central Baptist in Conway and MidAmerica Nazarene in Kansas. Overall, her career record is 203-115.
 
SCOUTING SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA
Southeastern Oklahoma enters this conference series on the road at Tech with a 23-23 overall record and a 15-12 mark in conference play. The Savage Storm have dropped their last four games played which includes the last two of their weekend series with Harding last weekend and a mid-week doubleheader on the road at Cameron this past Tuesday.
 
With two weekends left of conference play, the Savage Storm have yet to secure a spot in the upcoming GAC Tournament, but are in the hunt, currently in fifth place.
 
Entering play against Tech, the Savage Storm are hitting .297 as a team (373-for-1,257) with 200 runs scored, 54 doubles, 5 triples and 24 home runs.
 
Kady Fryrear currently leads the team in batting average at .385 (45-for-117). Fryrear is also the top overall power threat as she paces the team with a .530 slugging percentage thanks to nine doubles, one triple and two home runs. Sage Harlow leads the team in RBIs with 30 and is tied for second on the team in homers with three.
 
In the circle, the Savage Storm have a team ERA of 4.00 and have struck out 223 batters in 304.1 innings of work.
 
The Savage Storm have split their starting pitching duties between a trio of pitchers in Reese Taylor, Amber Walsworth and Emily Simmons. Taylor leads the team in games started with 15 games while Walsworth is right behind at 14. Simmons has made 11 starts and gone the distance in all but one.
 
Taylor is 5-9 with a 3.88 ERA and 62 strikeouts in 97.1 innings of work. Walsworth is 6-5 with a 3.69 ERA and has 56 strikeouts in 72.2 innings. Simmons is 8-6 with a 3.33 ERA and 74 strikeouts in 98.2 innings.
 
The Savage Storm are led by Mackenzie Sher, who in her second season at Southeastern Oklahoma and sixth overall. In her time at Southeastern, Sher is 56-50 and carries an overall record of 126-141.
