SEARCY, Ark. – A little over a month since the Arkansas Tech and Harding softball team's played the first two games of their season series, the two met up once more on Tuesday at Harding to finish the series. Unfortunately, like the first two games, Harding came away with the win.
For all intents and purposes, Tuesday's series finale was decided after the first inning of play as all of the runs in the game came in that opening frame.
The Golden Suns would be the first ones on the board as the road team and plated a run on three hits in the top of the first. Those three hits came in succession following an out made in leadoff spot and had momentum building for the Golden Suns early, but an inning-ending double play abruptly stopped what might have been a big inning.
Lillee Mahan was the one who got things going in the first as she singled to left field.
Maycie Hardy then continued her RBI barrage as she drove in Mahan all the way from first on a single to left field.
Sydney Keaton then registered the third of the three-straight singles, but shortly thereafter the inning ended on the aforementioned double play.
In the bottom of the frame, Harding also mounted a run-scoring rally after making an out at the leadoff spot. Following that out, the Lady Bisons loaded the bases after two walks and a hit. Harding then scored the first run on a fielder's choice and got the big hit moments later with a bases-clearing double.
After that, both teams combined for seven hits over the final five and a half innings of play.
The Golden Suns will now prepare for their upcoming weekend series at home against Southeastern Oklahoma. The series is slated to begin on Friday afternoon with a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
