FIRST PITCH
The Arkansas Tech softball team looks to keep the momentum going from last weekend's sweep at home against Southern Arkansas as they take to the road for a three-game conference series at East Central.
 
The series is scheduled to start on Friday afternoon with a single-game starting at 3 p.m. A series-ending doubleheader is slated for a noon start on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Golden Suns and Tigers have met 45 times historically in a series that started in 2011. In terms of the all-time series record, Arkansas Tech holds a 30-15 lead over East Central.
 
The two teams met three times last season with a three-game series being played in Russellville. Tech swept the series and held the Tigers scoreless across all three games.
 
TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Golden Suns enters this weekend series on the road at East Central with an overall record of 20-15 and a 12-11 mark in conference play. This past weekend, the Golden Suns picked up a massive sweep at home against rival Southern Arkansas. In that series, the Golden Suns would hold the potent SAU lineup to just four runs across three games and 24 innings total.
 
Entering play against SAU, the Golden Suns are hitting .241 as a team (216-for-895) with 144 runs scored, 47 doubles, six triples and six home runs.
 
Maycie Hardy currently leads the team in batting average at .282 (24-for-85). Shelby Chavers has provided the most power production thus far with a .393 slugging percentage thanks to four doubles and three triples. Lexi Gorniak leads the team in RBIs with 17 while Chavers leads the team in runs scored with 17. Five other Golden Suns have scored double-digit runs as well.
 
Sydney Keaton leads the team in home runs with two while the other five have come from a different source with Gorniak, Savannah Snow, Aidan Gorton and Hardy all having left the yard.
 
In the circle, the Golden Suns have a team ERA of 2.94 and have struck out 170 batters in 233.2 innings of work.
 
Bradi Basler, Aidan Dayberry and Alexis Findley have made multiple starts this season with Basler having the most with 14. Dayberry and Findley are next with 10. Jaycee McKee and Ella Thornley have also made appearances in relief for Tech as part of their five-person pitching staff.
 
Basler is currently 7-4 and has posted a 3.34 ERA and struck out 62 in 71.1 innings of work. Findley has the lowest ERA among the starters at 2.28. She is currently 3-5 with 52 strikeouts in 67.2 innings of work. Dayberry is 5-3 with a 3.35 ERA with 35 strikeouts in 48.0 innings.
 
Leading the Golden Suns is Jordon Jones. In her second season as head coach of the Golden Suns, Jones is looking to build off her first year in which Tech posted a 28-24 overall record and were 17-15 in the Great American Conference. Prior to coming to Tech, Jones had head coaching stops at the NAIA level at Central Baptist in Conway and MidAmerica Nazarene in Kansas. Overall, her career record is 201-113.
 
SCOUTING EAST CENTRAL
East Central enters this conference series against Tech with a 17-22 overall record and an 8-16 mark in conference play. The Tigers are coming off a series sweep at home against Ouachita Baptist this past weekend, but most-recently dropped their rivalry conference game on the road at Southeastern Oklahoma earlier on Thursday.
 
Entering play against Tech, the Tigers are hitting .256 as a team (252-for-983) with 131 runs scored, 34 doubles, two triples and 16 home runs.
 
Jami Watson currently leads the team in batting average at .309 (30-for-97). Watson is also the top overall power threat as she paces the team with a .546 slugging percentage thanks to five doubles and six home runs. Her 24 RBIs lead the team. Behind Watson in those power categories is Megan Lesko as she has five home runs and 16 RBIs. Lesko does lead the team in runs scored with 20.
 
In the circle, the Tigers have a team ERA of 4.14 and have struck out 125 batters in 245.1 innings of work.
 
The Tigers have had three pitchers start all but two of their games with Taylor Spence leading the way with 14 starts. Lauren HerrNeckar and Taryn O'Brien are next with 11 each. Spence is 7-7 with a 3.16 ERA and 44 strikeouts in 93.0 innings of work. HerrNeckar is 5-6 with a 3.59 ERA and has 46 strikeouts in 68.1 innings. O'Brien is 4-7 with a 6.06 ERA and has 14 strikeouts in 47.1 innings.
 
The Tigers are led by Destini Anderson, who in her 18th season at East Central. In her time at ECU, Anderson is 429-423-2.
