RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech women's tennis team opened Great American Conference play at home against Ouachita Baptist on Saturday afternoon and came away with a 5-2 win.
The Golden Suns would jump out to a 1-0 lead in the match after they secured the coveted doubles point. After dropping the first doubles match at flight three, the Golden Suns rallied to win the next two with a 6-3 win at the top-flight and a clutch 7-5 win at flight two.
After taking that point, the Golden Suns rattled off four-consecutive straight-sets wins in singles play to claim the match overall.
Madalena Amil was the first to win in singles as she made quick work of her flight three match, 6-1, 6-3.
Kristyna Dvorakova then won her flight six match, 6-3, 6-1. The clinching point came in flight four as
Sofia Beggiatto won 6-1, 6-1.
The final point of the match for the Golden Suns came at flight five where
Maria Krite won her match, 6-3, 6-4.
The top-two flights split sets and with the match already decided, a 10-point tiebreaker was played to decide those matches. Unfortunately, Ouachita Baptist came away with the wins in those tiebreaks to claim their two points in the match.
The Golden Suns will now prepare for another GAC match, this time on the road at Southern Arkansas on Friday, April 5. First-serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
