FIRST PITCH
The Arkansas Tech softball team remains on the road this weekend and will play a three-game series at Arkansas-Monticello, marking their second-straight weekend away from Russellville.
The series is scheduled to start on Thursday afternoon with a single-game starting at 2 p.m. A series-ending doubleheader is slated for a Noon start on Friday afternoon.
The Golden Suns and Cotton Blossoms have met 73 times historically in a series that started in 2004. In terms of the all-time series record, Arkansas Tech holds a 37-36 lead over Arkansas-Monticello.
The two teams met three times last season with a three-game series being played in Russellville. UAM won the series, winning the opener and finale.
TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Golden Suns enters this weekend series at Arkansas-Monticello with an overall record of 17-12 and a 9-8 mark in conference play. This past weekend, the Golden Suns salvaged the final game of their road series at Southwestern Oklahoma with a 3-1 win in the finale.
Entering play against UAM, the Golden Suns are hitting .248 as a team (183-for-737) with 129 runs scored, 40 doubles, six triples and six home runs.
Maycie Hardy currently leads the team in batting average at .338 (22-for-65).
Hardy has also provided the most power production thus far with a .477 slugging percentage thanks to six doubles and a home run.
Lexi Gorniak leads the team in RBIs with 17 while
Shelby Chavers leads the team in runs scored with 14. Three other Golden Suns have scored double-digit runs as well.
Sydney Keaton leads the team in home runs with two while the other five have come from a different source with
Gorniak,
Savannah Snow,
Aidan Gorton and
Hardy all having left the yard.
In the circle, the Golden Suns have a team ERA of 3.06 and have struck out 145 batters in 190.0 innings of work.
Bradi Basler,
Aidan Dayberry and
Alexis Findley have made multiple starts this season with
Basler having the most with 12.
Dayberry and
Findley are next with eight.
Jaycee McKee and
Ella Thornley have also made appearances in relief for Tech as part of their five-person pitching staff.
Basler is currently 7-3 and has posted a 3.22 ERA and struck out 53 in 63.0 innings of work.
Findley has the lowest ERA among the starters at 2.59. She is currently 2-5 with 44 strikeouts in 51.1 innings of work.
Dayberry is 4-2 with a 3.23 ERA with 32 strikeouts in 39.0 innings.
Leading the Golden Suns is
Jordon Jones. In her second season as head coach of the Golden Suns,
Jones is looking to build off her first year in which Tech posted a 28-24 overall record and were 17-15 in the Great American Conference. Prior to coming to Tech,
Jones had head coaching stops at the NAIA level at Central Baptist in Conway and MidAmerica Nazarene in Kansas. Overall, her career record is 198-110.
SCOUTING ARKANSAS-MONTICELLO
Arkansas-Monticello enters this conference series with Tech with a 14-19 overall record and a 6-11 mark in conference play. The Cotton Blossoms are coming off a series loss at home against Southern Nazarene this past weekend. In the series, UAM won the middle game, 5-4, but were shutout in the opener and finale.
Entering play against Tech, the Cotton Blossoms are hitting .259 as a team (221-for-853) with 125 runs scored, 49 doubles, four triples and 14 home runs.
Adrianna Erichsen currently leads the team in batting average at .344 (31-for-90).
Courtnee Sensibaugh is the top overall power threat as she paces the team with a .600 slugging percentage thanks to five doubles, one triple and four home runs. Sensibaugh is tied for the team-lead in home runs with
Kennedy Cox. Cox is currently leading the team in RBIs with 21. Six others have at least 10 RBIs.
In the circle, the Cotton Blossoms have a team ERA of 4.56 and have struck out 163 batters in 218.0 innings of work.
The Cotton Blossoms have had four pitchers make multiple starts with
Mallory Pitre starting the most at 14.
Sam Stephens is next with 12.
Pitre is 6-7 with a 3.66 ERA and 71 strikeouts in 80.1 innings of work.
Stephens is 3-4 with a 4.55 ERA and has 35 strikeouts in 47.2 innings.
