TYLER, Texas – The Arkansas Tech women's tennis team picked up a thrilling 4-3 win on the road at Tyler Junior College on Saturday to end their week in Texas 2-0.
The Golden Suns got the team win thanks to winning four of the final five singles matches after they had dropped the doubles point at the start of the match and lost the first singles match that came to completion.
The first singles win to come through was at flight six with Kristina Dvorakova winning 6-1, 7-5.
Sofia Beggiatto then followed with a 6-4, 6-1 win at flight four to knot the team score at 2-all.
Elis Gergel secured the third-straight singles win with a 6-4, 7-5 triumph at flight two.
With Tech leading 3-2 in the team match, TJC tied things up with a three-set win at flight one, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.
The final match remaining was at flight five where
Maria Krite had already taken the first set, 6-2. In her second set, Krite and opponent Stephanie Gopar would go to a set-two tiebreak that went in favor of Gopar, 11-9, forcing a decisive third set for the match.
Krite would emerge victorious in the tiebreaking set, winning 6-2.
The Golden Suns will now prepare for a road match at nearby University of the Ozarks on Wednesday, March 27. First-serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
