PLANO, Texas – The Arkansas Tech women's tennis team picked up a 6-1 win on Friday on the road against Collin County Community College.
The match started with the Golden Suns capturing the doubles point with wins at flights one and two and a win by default at flight three. At the top-flight, the doubles pairing of
Monica Balau and
Melanie Griffiths won their match, 6-2, while
Sofia Beggiatto and
Elis Gergel won their flight-two match, 6-1.
In singles, the Golden Suns immediately got a default win at flight six and were up 2-0 in the match.
Gergel was the first played singles match to come to a conclusion as she won her flight three match, 6-2, 6-2.
Maria Krite was right behind with the clincher at flight five with a 6-1, 6-4 win.
The Golden Suns would add wins at flights four and one as Beggiatto won 6-3, 6-4 at four and Balau, 6-4, 6-4 at one.
The final match on court was at flight two where
Madalena Amil split her sets and ultimately lost in the 10-point match tiebreaker.
The Golden Suns will now prepare for their second match in as many days as they head to Tyler, Texas to take on Tyler Junior College. First-serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
