Golden Suns kept silent in Friday doubleheader

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The Arkansas Tech softball team was held scoreless across both ends of their doubleheader at Southwestern Oklahoma on Friday afternoon, losing the opener, 2-0 and the nightcap, 3-0.

GAME ONE
In the opener, SWOSU scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning and added their second in the fifth. After the Bulldogs took that 2-0 lead, the Golden Suns looked like they might be starting to put something together in the sixth after a leadoff walk drawn by Shelby Chavers, but a double play and a groundout ended the inning.

In the top of the seventh, the Golden Suns had put together their best run-scoring opportunity of the game as they loaded the bases with one out. Sydney Keaton drew a one-out walk to get things going. Maycie Hardy and Abigail Lochala then hit consecutive singles to fill up the bases.

Unfortunately, the Golden Suns would not be able to get the clutch hit and made outs in the next two at-bats to end the game.

GAME TWO
In the second game, SWOSU pushed across their first run of the game in the bottom of the third. They would go on to add single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to account for their three runs in the game.

The Golden Suns would double their hit total in the second game and were issued two walks but were unable to push across any of those base runners as they left eight on base.

Like the first game as well, the Golden Suns mounted a bit of a rally over the final two innings as they had the potential tying run at the plate with one out in each inning. The Bulldogs, however, managed to stop any chances of a Golden Suns comeback in each frame and put the finishing touches on their second shutout of the day.

UP NEXT
The Golden Suns and Bulldogs will conclude their series on Saturday with a single game starting at Noon.
