FIRST PITCH
The Arkansas Tech softball team is on the road this weekend at Southwestern Oklahoma to open an eight-game stretch of road games.
 
The series is scheduled to start on Friday afternoon with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. The finale is slated to be played at Noon on Saturday morning.
 
The Golden Suns and Bulldogs have met 42 times historically in a series that started in 2004. In terms of the all-time series record, Arkansas Tech holds a 35-7 lead over Southwestern Oklahoma.
 
The two teams met three times last season with a three-game series being played in Conway and Tech due to weather. Tech won the series, winning the first two games played in Conway, but dropped the finale on their home field.
 
TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Golden Suns enters this weekend's series at Southwestern Oklahoma with an overall record of 16-10 and an 8-6 mark in GAC play. This past weekend, the Golden Suns picked up a big three-game sweep over Northwestern Oklahoma at home to push their conference record above the .500 mark.
 
Entering play against Southwestern Oklahoma, the Golden Suns are hitting .252 as a team (166-for-658) with 126 runs scored, 38 doubles, six triples and six home runs.
 
Shelby Chavers currently leads the team in batting average at .322 (19-for-59). Maycie Hardy has provided the most power production thus far with a .464 slugging percentage thanks to five doubles and a home run. Lexi Gorniak leads the team in RBIs with 17 while Chavers leads the team in runs scored with 14.
 
Sydney Keaton leads the team in home runs with two while the other five have come from a different source with Gorniak, Savannah Snow, Aidan Gorton and Hardy all having left the yard.
 
In the circle, the Golden Suns have a team ERA of 3.19 and have struck out 130 batters in 171.0 innings of work.
 
Bradi Basler, Aidan Dayberry and Alexis Findley have made multiple starts this season with Basler having the most with 12. Dayberry and Findley are next with seven. Jaycee McKee and Ella Thornley have also made appearances in relief for Tech as part of their five-person pitching staff.
 
Basler is currently 7-3 and has posted a 3.31 ERA and struck out 52 in 61.1 innings of work. Findley has the lowest ERA among the starters at 2.57. She is currently 2-4 with 40 strikeouts in 46.1 innings of work.
 
Leading the Golden Suns is Jordon Jones. In her second season as head coach of the Golden Suns, Jones is looking to build off her first year in which Tech posted a 28-24 overall record and were 17-15 in the Great American Conference. Prior to coming to Tech, Jones had head coaching stops at the NAIA level at Central Baptist in Conway and MidAmerica Nazarene in Kansas. Overall, her career record is 197-110.
 
SCOUTING SOUTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA
Southwestern Oklahoma enters this weekend's series with Tech with a 10-17 overall record and a 6-8 mark in the GAC. Earlier this week, the Bulldogs played a mid-week doubleheader at home against Newman and split the games, winning 7-2 in the opener and losing 9-4 in the second game. Dating back to their most-recent conference action, SWOSU was swept in their weekend series on the road at Harding.
 
Entering play against Tech, the Bulldogs are hitting .284 as a team (201-for-708) with 106 runs scored, 38 doubles, five triples and 13 home runs.
 
Jadyn Hook currently leads the team in batting average at .393 (33-for-84). Hook also leads the team in runs scored with 17 and is tied for the most doubles with five while also being one of four players with double-digit RBIs. Chesnie Hewitt has been the team's biggest power threat thus far with a .536 slugging percentage thanks to five doubles and four home runs.
 
In the circle, the Bulldogs have a team ERA of 4.44 and have struck out 105 batters in 170.0 innings of work.
 
The Bulldogs have had three pitchers make multiple starts with Blaire Gentry starting the most at 13 and Courtney Hill being second with 10.
 
Gentry is 7-8 with a 3.04 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 85.1 innings of work. Hill is 2-7 with a 4.88 ERA and has 50 strikeouts in 61.2 innings.
 
The Bulldogs are led by Jessica Boone, who in her second season at Southwestern Oklahoma. In her time at SWOSU, Boone is 22-57.
