FIRST PITCH
The Arkansas Tech softball team remains at home this weekend and concludes their five-game homestand with a Great American Conference series against Northwestern Oklahoma.
 
The series is scheduled to start on Friday afternoon with a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. The finale is slated to be played at 11 a.m. on Sunday morning.
 
The Golden Suns and Rangers have met 34 times historically in a series that started in 2013. In terms of the all-time series record, Arkansas Tech holds a 25-9 lead over Northwestern Oklahoma.
 
The two teams met three times last season with a three-game series being played in Alva. Tech swept the series.
 
TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Golden Suns enters this weekend's series against Northwestern Oklahoma with an overall record of 13-10 and a 5-6 mark in GAC play. Earlier this week, the Golden Suns dropped both games of their mid-week conference doubleheader at home against Harding.
 
Entering play against Northwestern Oklahoma, the Golden Suns are hitting .258 as a team (154-for-596) with 112 runs scored, 34 doubles, five triples and six home runs.
 
Shelby Chavers currently lead the team in batting average at .340 (18-for-53). Dani Lindsey has provided the most power production thus far with a .519 slugging percentage thanks to six doubles and two triples. Lexi Gorniak leads the team in RBIs with 16 while Kaylyn Aguirre leads the team in runs scored with 13.
 
Sydney Keaton leads the team in home runs with two while the other five have come from a different source with Gorniak, Savannah Snow, Aidan Gorton and Maycie Hardy all having left the yard.
 
In the circle, the Golden Suns have a team ERA of 3.50 and have struck out 115 batters in 150.0 innings of work.
 
Bradi Basler, Aidan Dayberry and Alexis Findley have made multiple starts this season with Basler having the most with 11. Dayberry and Findley are next with six. Jaycee McKee and Ella Thornley have also made appearances in relief for Tech as part of their five-person pitching staff.
 
Basler is currently 7-3 and has posted a 3.36 ERA and struck out 51 in 58.1 innings of work. Findley has the lowest ERA among the starters at 2.50. She is currently 2-4 with 34 strikeouts in 42.0 innings of work.
 
Leading the Golden Suns is Jordon Jones. In her second season as head coach of the Golden Suns, Jones is looking to build off her first year in which Tech posted a 28-24 overall record and were 17-15 in the Great American Conference. Prior to coming to Tech, Jones had head coaching stops at the NAIA level at Central Baptist in Conway and MidAmerica Nazarene in Kansas. Overall, her career record is 195-113.
 
SCOUTING NORTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA
Northwestern Oklahoma enters this weekend's series with Tech with a 12-11 overall record and a 4-7 mark in the GAC. The Rangers recently swept their mid-week conference doubleheader on the road at Southwestern Oklahoma, winning 4-2 and 7-3.
 
Entering play against Tech, the Rangers are hitting .287 as a team (169-for-588) with 105 runs scored, 30 doubles, nine triples and nine home runs.
 
Rachel Sherwood currently leads the team in batting average at .457 (32-for-70). Sherwood also has been the team's biggest power threat thus far with an .829 slugging percentage thanks to eight doubles, six triples and two home runs. Her home runs are second on the team with Hannah Howell leading the team with three.
 
Sherwood is also the team-leader in runs scored with 19 and RBIs with 26. Two other Rangers have scored double-digit runs and drove in double-digit runs.
 
In the circle, the Rangers have a team ERA of 4.98 and have struck out 47 batters in 135.0 innings of work.
 
The Rangers have had three pitchers make multiple starts with Ireland Caro starting the most at 10. Hannah Howell is next with seven games started.
 
Caro is 3-8 with a 6.02 ERA and 10 strikeouts in 43.0 innings of work. Howell is 6-1 with a 3.14 ERA and has 29 strikeouts in 58.0 innings.
 
The Rangers are led by Casady Webb, who in her second season at Northwestern Oklahoma. In her time at NWOSU, Webb is 25-48.
