RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech softball team dropped both ends of their Tuesday evening doubleheader at home to Harding, losing the opener, 6-4, and the nightcap, 2-0.
GAME ONE
In the opener, the Lady Bisons jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead with three runs in the top of the first. The Golden Suns were able to answer back in the bottom of the frame and scored twice themselves to make it a one-run game.
For the Golden Suns, the two runs scored in the first on a sacrifice fly off the bat of
Dani Lindsey and a RBI single to right-centerfield by
Savannah Snow.
Harding would score twice in the second to push their lead back out to three runs, 5-2, but their offense went silent over the next four innings thanks to a stellar relief outing by
Jaycee McKee.
While McKee was keeping the Lady Bisons off the board, the Golden Suns slowly climbed back into the game and made it a one-run game once more with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
In the fourth, the Golden Suns got a RBI single from
Abigail Lochala, and in the fifth, a RBI single from
Sydney Keaton.
Neither team would score in the sixth despite having a runner in scoring position, but Harding was able to push across a run of insurance in the top of the seventh. The Golden Suns would get the tying run to the plate in the bottom half of the frame, but were unable to score.
GAME TWO
The second game was a low-scoring pitcher's duel that saw just five hits combined.
After no score through three innings, the Lady Bisons broke through in the fourth and scored two runs one hit in the inning. The lone hit was a leadoff triple that later scored on a sacrifice fly. On that same sac fly, the second run for Harding scored as the ball was hit deep in the left-centerfield gap.
The Golden Suns would have at least one baserunner on in each inning after Harding took the lead, but were unable to get the clutch hit.
