FIRST PITCH
The Arkansas Tech softball team returns home this week and will play five-straight starting with a Great American Conference doubleheader against Harding on Tuesday.
The doubleheader is slated to begin at 4 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.
The Golden Suns and Lady Bisons have met 35 times historically in a series that started in 2014. In terms of the all-time series record, Arkansas Tech holds a 20-15 lead over Harding.
The two teams met three times last season with the doubleheader being played at Harding and the single game at Tech. Harding swept the series, 3-0, and did not allow a run.
TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Golden Suns enters Tuesday's doubleheader against Harding with an overall record of 13-8 and a 5-4 mark in GAC play. This past weekend, the Golden Suns picked up their second-straight conference series victory of the season winning two-of-three games on the road at Ouachita Baptist. The Golden Suns would win the first two games, 8-5 in 10 innings and 4-0, but dropped the finale 2-0.
Entering play against Harding, the Golden Suns are hitting .263 as a team (144-for-547) with 108 runs scored, 32 doubles, four triples and six home runs.
Dani Lindsey and
Shelby Chavers currently lead the team in batting average at .347 (17-for-49).
Lindsey has also provided the most power production thus far with a .531 slugging percentage thanks to five doubles and two triples.
Lexi Gorniak leads the team in RBIs with 16 while
Kaylyn Aguirre leads the team in runs scored with 13.
Sydney Keaton leads the team in home runs with two while the other five have come from a different source with
Gorniak,
Savannah Snow,
Aidan Gorton and
Maycie Hardy all having left the yard.
In the circle, the Golden Suns have a team ERA of 3.45 and have struck out 86 batters in 107.0 innings of work.
Bradi Basler,
Aiden Dayberry and
Alexis Findley have made multiple starts this season with
Basler having the most with 10.
Dayberry is next with six and
Findley with five.
Jaycee McKee and
Ella Thornley have also made appearances in relief for Tech as part of their five-person pitching staff.
Basler is currently 7-2 and has posted a 2.82 ERA and struck out 50 in 57.0 innings of work.
Leading the Golden Suns is
Jordon Jones. In her second season as head coach of the Golden Suns,
Jones is looking to build off her first year in which Tech posted a 28-24 overall record and were 17-15 in the Great American Conference. Prior to coming to Tech,
Jones had head coaching stops at the NAIA level at Central Baptist in Conway and MidAmerica Nazarene in Kansas. Overall, her career record is 195-111.
SCOUTING HARDING
Harding enters Tuesday's mid-week doubleheader with Tech with a 13-9 overall record and a 5-4 mark in the GAC. The Lady Bisons have won five-straight games, all in conference play. The streak started in the second game of their series at then-ranked No. 21 Southern Arkansas and continued this past weekend at home against Arkansas-Monticello. Across those three games, the Lady Bisons allowed just three runs.
Entering play against Tech, the Lady Bisons are hitting .316 as a team (180-for-569) with 108 runs scored, 20 doubles, 11 triples and nine home runs.
Jordan Cabana currently leads the team in batting average at .500 (29-for-58).
Cabana also has been the team's biggest power threat thus far with a .759 slugging percentage thanks to two doubles, two triples and three home runs. Her home runs are tied for the team-lead with
Emma Curry while
Cabana's 19 RBIs pace the club.
Cabana is also tied for the team-lead in runs scored with
Macy Ham at 15. Four other Lady Bisons have scored double-digit runs.
In the circle, the Lady Bisons have a team ERA of 3.28 and have struck out 84 batters in 141.0 innings of work.
The Lady Bisons have alternated their starting pitching duties between
Riley Price and
Abby Burch. Price has started 13 games while
Burch has started the remaining nine. Both have also made several relief appearances with
Price making seven and
Burch making eight. Each also have one of the team's three saves.
Price is 9-6 with a 2.85 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 81.0 innings of work.
Burch is 4-3 with a 4.07 ERA and has 26 strikeouts in 43.0 innings.
The Lady Bisons are led by
Ashley Reeves, who in his third season at Harding and fifth overall. In her time at Harding,
Reeves is 97-41 and carries an overall record of 128-75.
