RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech women's basketball team could not overcome a slow offensive start against Southern Nazarene, falling to the consensus top-five ranked Crimson Storm, 74-38.
In the first quarter, the Golden Suns shot 1-of-16 overall and were limited to six points. Conversely, the Crimson Storm were able to jump out to a solid start offensively with 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting through the first 10 minutes of action. The second quarter featured similar outcomes with SNU once more scoring 20 points in the period while holding Tech to single-digits.
Staked to a sizable lead at halftime, 40-15, the Crimson Storm were able to maintain a comfortable advantage throughout the remainder of the second half as they went on to remain the lone NCAA Division II team to be unbeaten on the year.
Individually, the Golden Suns had nine players score in the game and were led by
Maisa Marcal and her 10 points.
Dana Thompson was next with eight points followed by
Julie Wagner with seven. Thompson and Wagner combined for 15 rebounds as Wagner had eight and Thompson with seven, respectively.
The Golden Suns will look to bounce back on Saturday afternoon at home against Oklahoma Baptist. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
