FIRST PITCH
The Arkansas Tech softball team is sort of at home this weekend against Henderson State as their home series with the Reddies will take place at City of Colleges Park in Conway due to finishing touches still being completed on the newly turfed home field of the Golden Suns.
 
The series is slated to begin with a single seven-inning game on Friday afternoon starting at 5 p.m. Saturday will close the series with a doubleheader starting at noon. All games will be played on Field 1 of the complex at City of Colleges Park and Tech will be the home team on the scoreboard.
 
The Golden Suns and Reddies have met 87 times historically in a series that started in 2003. In terms of the all-time series record, Henderson State holds a slight 44-43 lead over Tech.
 
The two teams met three times last season with the conference series being played at Henderson. The Golden Suns won the series, 2-1, with wins in the opener and the finale.
 
TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Golden Suns enter this weekend's series against Henderson State with an overall record of 9-4 and a 1-2 mark in the GAC. This past weekend, the Golden Suns opened their GAC schedule on the road at Southern Nazarene and lost the series, dropping the first and final game of the series. Their win was a thrilling come-from-behind victory as they rallied for four runs while down to their final out.
 
Entering play this weekend, the Golden Suns are hitting .274 as a team (88-for-321) with 74 runs scored, 22 doubles, three triples and six home runs.
 
Dani Lindsey currently leads the team in batting average at .375 (12-for-32). Lindsey has also provided the most power production thus far with a .656 slugging percentage thanks to five doubles and two triples. She is also tied for the team-lead in RBIs at nine with Lexi Gorniak.
 
Kaylyn Aguirre leads the team in runs scored with 11. Sydney Keaton leads the team in home runs with two while the other five have come from a different source with Gorniak, Savannah Snow, Aidan Gorton and Maycie Hardy all having left the yard.
 
In the circle, the Golden Suns have a team ERA of 3.68 and have struck out 57 batters in 78.0 innings of work.
 
Bradi Basler, Aiden Dayberry and Alexis Findley have made multiple starts this season with Basler having the most with seven and Dayberry and Findley with three apiece. Jaycee McKee and Ella Thornley have also made appearances in relief for Tech as part of their five-person pitching staff.
 
Basler is currently 5-1 and has posted a 2.14 ERA and struck out 32 in 36.0 innings of work.
 
Leading the Golden Suns is Jordon Jones. In her second season as head coach of the Golden Suns, Jones is looking to build off her first year in which Tech posted a 28-24 overall record and were 17-15 in the Great American Conference. Prior to coming to Tech, Jones had head coaching stops at the NAIA level at Central Baptist in Conway and MidAmerica Nazarene in Kansas. Overall, her career record is 191-107.
 
SCOUTING HENDERSON STATE
Henderson State enters this weekend's series with Tech with a 9-8 overall record and a 1-2 mark in GAC play. The Reddies are on a modest two-game winning streak thanks to a mid-week doubleheader sweep at home against Christian Brothers this past Tuesday.
 
Entering play this weekend, the Reddies are hitting .332 as a team (151-for-455) with 92 runs scored, 23 doubles, two triples and nine home runs.
 
Lily Warren currently leads the team in batting average at .481 (25-for-52) and is tied for the team-lead in runs scored with 12.
 
Miyah Jackson has been the biggest power threat thus far for the Reddies and leads the team with an .804 slugging percentage thanks to seven doubles and four home runs. Jackson also leads the team in RBIs with 14.
 
In the circle, the Reddies have a team ERA of 5.73 and have struck out 76 batters in 113.0 innings of work.
 
Five different pitchers have started multiple games for the Reddies with Savannah Carrigan and Brooke Johnson being tied for the most starts on the team with four. Johnson is 1-0 with a 1.83 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 19.2 innings of work. The Reddies also have four pitchers who have appeared in eight games thus far.
 
Leading the Reddies is David Martinez, who is in his fourth season as head coach at Henderson State. In his time, Martinez is 53-111.
