ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech women's tennis team took on No. 24-ranked Texas A&M-Kingsville in a neutral site match on Saturday afternoon at the Ward Tennis Center in Arkadelphia. A&M-Kingsville would come away with the team win, 5-2.
Picking up the points for the Golden Suns were
Monica Balau and
Elis Gergel as they won their singles matches at flights two and three, respectively.
The match started with Kingsville claiming the doubles point with the deciding match coming at the top flight.
In singles, Kingsville quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the match with an injury retirement by Tech at flight six. The Golden Suns then knotted the match at two-all with the aforementioned singles wins by Balau and Gergel.
Balau's win at flight two saw her go 6-4, 6-1 while Gergel went 6-2, 6-2 at flight three.
The Javelinas went on to claim singles victories at flights one and four to secure the match victory.
The Golden Suns will now prepare for a second-straight day against a quality in-region opponent as they will take on Angelo State on Saturday afternoon. First-serve from the Ward Tennis Center in Arkadelphia is scheduled for Noon.
