TIPPING OFF
The Arkansas Tech women's basketball team will continue to log the mileage this weekend as they will embark on their longest overall road trip of the season with a tour of the western part of the State of Oklahoma. First up is a Thursday night game at Southwestern Oklahoma.
 
This will be the 45th meeting all-time between Arkansas Tech and Southwestern Oklahoma in a series that dates back to the 1986-87 season. Overall, Tech holds a 23-21 lead in the series. Since the two became conference foes within the GAC prior to the 2011-12 season, the Golden Suns are 13-15 against SWOSU.
 
This will be the second game between the Golden Suns and Bulldogs this season. The met in Russellville back on January 20. Southwestern Oklahoma won that initial meeting, 55-48.
 
Tip-off for Thursday evening's game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. from the Pioneer Cellular Events Center in Weatherford.
 
TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Golden Suns are 11-11 overall on the season and are 8-10 in the GAC and currently sixth in the conference standings. The Golden Suns are coming off a pivotal 66-63 win on the road at Ouachita Baptist this past Saturday.
 
At this point of the season, the Golden Suns average 68.4 ppg and rank fifth in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Golden Suns rank sixth in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 62.9 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Golden Suns are fourth in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .413 (548-of-1,327) and are limiting their opponents to a .353 mark (463-of-1,312) to rank third.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Golden Suns shoot at a clip of .290 (99-of-341) to rank ninth in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .311 (150-of-482) to rank 10th. From the free throw line, the Golden Suns shoot .690 as a team (309-of-448) to rank 10th.
 
Individually, the Golden Suns have two players averaging double figures and are led by Alex Hill and her 12.1 ppg. Behind Hill in scoring is Dana Thompson at 10.1 ppg. Just out of double-figure scoring is Maisa Marcal at 9.8 ppg.
 
Thompson leads the team in rebounding and is averaging 9.3 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, Hill lead the team and are averaging 2.6 assists per game each.
 
Defensively, the Golden Suns are led in steals by Hill at 1.7 steals per game and in blocks by Julie Wagner at 1.1 blocks per game.
 
The Golden Suns are coached by Dave Wilbers, who is in his 17th season as Tech. During his time at Tech, Wilbers has amassed a 353-132 overall record. Nine times, Wilbers has won 20 or more games at Tech and twice has won 30 or more. In terms of national rankings, a Wilbers-led team has been nationally-ranked at any point in a season 10 times. Among those, he has guided the Golden Suns to the top of the rankings on a pair of occasions during the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons.
 
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Southwestern Oklahoma is 12-12 overall this season and are 9-9 in the GAC where the currently are fifth in the standings. The Bulldogs are currently mired in a four-game losing skid that started on February 8. All of the games during that stretch have come on the road for SWOSU.
 
Statistically, the Bulldogs average 60.2 ppg and rank ninth in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Bulldogs rank fifth in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 62.6 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Bulldogs are 12th in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .348 (526-of-1,512) and limit their opponents to a .419 mark (522-of-1,245) to rank 11th.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Bulldogs shoot at a clip of .297 (185-of-622) to rank seventh in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .309 (123-of-398) to rank ninth. From the free throw line, the Bulldogs shoot .709 as a team (207-of-292) to rank eighth.
 
Individually, the Bulldogs have one player averaging double figures in scoring and are led by Averi Zinn and her 13.1 ppg.
 
Lainie Gooch is the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 5.5 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, Zinn leads the team and is averaging 4.9 assists per game.
 
Defensively, the Bulldogs are led in steals by Zinn at 2.5 steals per game and in blocks by Hailey Grant at 0.6 blocks per game.
 
The Bulldogs are coached by Jeff Zinn, who is in his second season at Southwestern Oklahoma as head coach. His record at Southwestern Oklahoma is 20-31.
