Golden Suns tripped up late at Southeastern Oklahoma

Box Score DURANT, Okla. – The Arkansas Tech women's basketball team dropped the first game of their weekend Oklahoma road trip on Thursday night as they lost to Southeastern Oklahoma, 64-57.

After a back-and-forth first quarter saw three tie scores and three lead changes, Southeastern Oklahoma seized control of the game in the second quarter and led throughout the period. By the end of the first half, the Savage Storm had built their lead up to seven points, 28-21.

Coming out of the half, however, the Golden Suns held Southeastern scoreless through the first five minutes of action allowing them to work their way back into the game and eventually into the lead by the 6:54 mark of the third quarter on a painted jumper by Dana Thompson.

Over the remaining five minutes of the third quarter, things tightened up as there were four lead changes with neither team leading by more than four points. That four-point lead was in favor of the Golden Suns at the 46-second mark, but a three-pointer by the Savage Storm on their ensuing possession cut Tech's lead down to a single point, 42-41.

The Golden Suns would hold on to a slim lead early in the fourth quarter until the Savage Storm regained a lead at the 7:41 mark on a three-pointer by Aimee Alverson. That would spark a 13-0 run over the next three minutes of action as the Savage Storm suddenly held a double-digit lead.

Down the stretch, the Golden Suns would attempt to comeback against Southeastern, but were only able to get as close as five points on a pair of occasions before the Savage Storm cashed in a pair of late free throws to bring the score its final margin of seven points.

Statistically, the Golden Suns had three players score in double figures and were led by Thompson and her 17 points. Thompson would add 12 rebounds to record her fifth double-double of the season. Alex Hill was next with 15 points followed by Hayleigh Wyrick's 12 points off the bench.

The Golden Suns will look to bounce back this Saturday afternoon as they remain on the road at East Central. Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
