TIPPING OFF
A bitter rivalry will be renewed on Tuesday afternoon as the Arkansas Tech women's basketball team hits the road to take on Delta State in a non-conference game.
 
Former conference foes in the Gulf South Conference, the Golden Suns and Lady Statesmen have met 49 times prior to Tuesday afternoon's game, but have not met since 2015. The Lady Statesmen have a 28-21 lead in the all-time series.
 
Tip-off for the game is scheduled for Noon inside Walter Sillers Coliseum on the campus of Delta State.
 
TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Golden Suns are off to an early 1-1 start to their season and are coming off a 93-64 win at home (Russellville High School) against Champion Christian this past Saturday.
 
With two games to their credit, the Golden Suns average 89.0 ppg and rank second in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Golden Suns rank 12th in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 76.0 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Golden Suns are third in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .448 (65-of-145) and are allowing their opponents to shoot at a .397 mark (54-of-136) to rank seventh.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Golden Suns shoot at a clip of .325 (13-of-40) to rank fourth in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .360 (18-of-50) to rank eighth. From the free throw line, the Golden Suns shoot .593 as a team (35-of-59) to rank 11th.
 
Individually, the Golden Suns have three players averaging double figures and are led by Hayleigh Wyrick and her 14.0 ppg. Olivia Jones is next with 12.5 ppg while Jaki Rollins rounds out double-figure scoring at 10.5 ppg.
 
Wagner led the team in rebounds with 7.5 rpg. In terms of assists, Jones and Wagner led the team with 2.0 apg.
 
Defensively, the Golden Suns are led in steals by Wyrick at 2.0 spg.
 
The Golden Suns are coached by Dave Wilbers, who is in his 18th season as Tech. During his time at Tech, Wilbers has amassed a 357-135 overall record. Nine times, Wilbers has won 20 or more games at Tech and twice has won 30 or more. In terms of national rankings, a Wilbers-led team has been nationally-ranked at any point in a season 10 times. Among those, he has guided the Golden Suns to the top of the rankings on a pair of occasions during the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons.
 
SCOUTING THE LADY STATESMEN
Delta State is out to a 2-1 start to their season and are coming off their first loss of the season, an 83-73 loss on the road at Henderson State this past Wednesday.
 
Statistically though three games played, the Lady Statesmen average 72.0 ppg and rank fifth in the Gulf South Conference (GSC). On the defensive end of the court, the Lady Statesmen rank fifth in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 62.7 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Lady Statesmen are sixth in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .415 (68-of-164) and are allowing their opponents a .368 mark (64-of-174) to rank third.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Lady Statesmen shoot at a clip of .355 (22-of-62) to rank second in the MIAA while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .296 (16-of-54) to rank eighth. From the free throw line, the Lady Statesmen shoot .734 as a team (58-of-79) to rank fifth.
 
Individually, the Lady Statesmen have one player averaging double figures in scoring and are led by Grace Watson and her 14.0 ppg. Wakiyrah Daniels is not far off the double-figure mark and sits at 9.0 ppg average.
 
Watson is also the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 13.0 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, Martyna Czescik leads the team and is averaging 2.3 assists per game.
 
Defensively, the Lady Statesmen are led in steals by Rafalia Stergki at 2.3 steals per game and in blocks by Watson at 1.0 blocks per game.
 
The Lady Statesmen are coached by Tracy Stewart-Lange, who is in her third season at Delta State and her 24th overall. In her time, Stewart-Lange is 28-33 has amassed a 418-287 overall record.
