TIPPING OFF
The Arkansas Tech women's basketball team is back in action on Saturday afternoon and will take on Champion Christian, a National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) member out of Hot Springs.  
 
The Golden Suns have won each of the previous four meetings by a combined margin of 146 points and have averaged 89.8 ppg in the process.
 
Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 1 p.m. inside Cyclone Arena at Russellville High School.
 
TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Golden Suns are off to an early 0-1 start to their season as they lost their season-opener at home on Wednesday night to Arkansas-Fort Smith, 88-85 in overtime.
 
With one game to their credit, the Golden Suns average 85.0 ppg and rank second in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Golden Suns rank 12th in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 88.0 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Golden Suns are 10th in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .392 (29-of-74) and are allowing their opponents to shoot at a .427 mark (32-of-75) to rank 10th.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Golden Suns shoot at a clip of .235 (4-of-17) to rank ninth in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .407 (11-of-27) to rank 10th. From the free throw line, the Golden Suns shoot .657 as a team (23-of-35) to rank ninth.
 
Individually, the Golden Suns' five players that scored in double figures against Arkansas-Fort Smith were Olivia Jones, Julie Wagner, Hayleigh Wyrick, Jaki Rollins and AbbiGrace Cunningham. Jones scored 12 points while Wagner and Wyrick each scored 11 points in the season debut. Rollins and Cunningham had 10 points apiece.
 
Wagner led the team in rebounds in the opener with seven. In terms of assists, ClaraGrace Prater led the team with two.
 
Defensively, the Golden Suns were led in steals by Rollins and Wyrick as both had two steals.
 
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Champion Christian ended their 2023-24 season 21-4 overall and were 14-0 in the NCCAA Southwest Region. This season, the Tigers are off to a 2-1 start in their countable games. In all, the game against Tech will be Champion Christian's fourth game of the season as they played an exhibition game at Northwestern State back on November 5.
 
Most-recently, the Tigers are coming off an 86-80 win at home against NCCAA nationally-ranked No. 3 Pensacola Christian.
 
The Tigers are coached by DeAnthony Ellison, who is in his sixth season at Champion Christian. In his time as a head coach there, Ellison has a 104-29 record in countable games.
