TIPPING OFF
The Arkansas Tech women's basketball team looks to get back to its winning ways with the last of four-straight games at home on tap this Saturday against Arkansas-Monticello.
 
This will be the 107th meeting all-time between Arkansas Tech and Arkansas-Monticello in a series that dates back to the 1977-78 season. Overall, Tech holds a 77-29 lead in the series. Since the two became conference foes within the GAC prior to the 2011-12 season, the Golden Suns are 22-4 against UAM.
 
This will be the second game between the Golden Suns and Cotton Blossoms this season. The two opened up GAC play against one another back in late November and Tech won at UAM, 58-48.
 
Tip-off for Saturday afternoon's game is scheduled for 1 p.m. inside Tucker Coliseum.
 
TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Golden Suns are 8-7 overall on the season and are 5-6 in the GAC. The Golden Suns are coming off a 64-56 loss at home against No. 14-ranked Harding this past Thursday.
 
At this point of the season, the Golden Suns average 69.0 ppg and rank fifth in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Golden Suns rank sixth in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 62.8 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Golden Suns are third in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .421 (379-of-900) and are limiting their opponents to a .349 mark (313-of-896) to rank third.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Golden Suns shoot at a clip of .294 (65-of-221) to rank ninth in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .303 (102-of-337) to rank sixth. From the free throw line, the Golden Suns shoot .675 as a team (212-of-314) to rank 11th.
 
Individually, the Golden Suns have two players averaging double figures and three more that are at least at 7.0 ppg. Alex Hill currently leads the team in scoring at 12.7 ppg. Behind Hill in scoring and rounding out double-figure scoring is Maisa Marcal at 10.4 ppg. Dana Thompson, Hayleigh Wyrick, and Julie Wagner are all averaging at least 7.0 ppg at 9.8, 8.3 and 7.2 ppg, respectively.
 
Thompson leads the team in rebounding and is averaging 8.6 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, Hill lead the team and are averaging 2.7 assists per game each.
 
Defensively, the Golden Suns are led in steals by Hill at 2.0 steals per game and in blocks by Thompson at 1.2 blocks per game.
 
The Golden Suns are coached by Dave Wilbers, who is in his 17th season as Tech. During his time at Tech, Wilbers has amassed a 350-128 overall record. Nine times, Wilbers has won 20 or more games at Tech and twice has won 30 or more. In terms of national rankings, a Wilbers-led team has been nationally-ranked at any point in a season 10 times. Among those, he has guided the Golden Suns to the top of the rankings on a pair of occasions during the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons.
 
SCOUTING THE COTTON BLOSSOMS
Arkansas-Monticello is 6-11 overall this season and are 2-9 in the GAC. The Cotton Blossoms are coming off a 72-63 win at home this past Thursday against Southern Arkansas. That win snapped a two-game losing streak.
 
Statistically, the Cotton Blossoms average 63.5 ppg and rank eighth in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Cotton Blossoms rank 11th in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 65.2 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Cotton Blossoms are ninth in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .371 (391-of-1,054) and limit their opponents to a .391 mark (376-of-961) to rank eighth.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Cotton Blossoms shoot at a clip of .254 (92-of-362) to rank 12th in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .275 (81-of-295) to rank fourth. From the free throw line, the Cotton Blossoms shoot .684 as a team (206-of-301) to rank 10th.
 
Individually, the Cotton Blossoms have two players averaging double figures in scoring and are led by Bailey Harris and her 14.8 ppg. Alindsey Long is next and rounds out double-figure scoring at 11.6 ppg.
 
Alyssia Thorne is the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 5.8 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, Kelsey Blakemore and Jayla Stirgus are tied for the team-lead and are averaging 1.8 assists per game.
 
Defensively, the Cotton Blossoms are led in steals by Blakemore at 1.9 steals per game and in blocks by Harris at 1.1 blocks per game.
 
The Cotton Blossoms are coached by David Midlick, who is in his second season at Arkansas-Monticello as head coach and 10th overall. His record with the Cotton Blossoms is 15-30 and his career record is 145-134.
