TIPPING OFF
The Arkansas Tech men's basketball team looks to build off the momentum from their last game and close out their four-game home stretch on a high note as they are set to take on Arkansas-Monticello this Saturday.
 
This will be the 173rd meeting all-time between Arkansas Tech and Arkansas-Monticello in a series that dates back to the 1928-29 season. Overall, Tech leads the series, 110-62. Since the two became conference foes within the GAC prior to the 2011-12 season, the Wonder Boys are 12-14 against UAM.
 
This will be the second game between the Wonder Boys and Boll Weevils this season. The two opened up GAC play against one another back in late November and Tech won at UAM, 87-81.
 
Tip-off for Saturday afternoon's game is scheduled for 3 p.m. inside Tucker Coliseum.
 
TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Wonder Boys are 13-4 overall this season and are 9-2 in the GAC. Most-recently, the Wonder Boys enjoyed a blowout win at home against Harding this past Thursday.
 
Statistically, the Wonder Boys average 75.4 ppg and rank fourth in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Wonder Boys rank first in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 66.1 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Wonder Boys are fourth in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .470 (454-of-966) and limit their opponents to a .432 mark (379-of-878) to rank second.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Wonder Boys shoot at a clip of .400 (148-of-370) to rank first in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .363 (116-of-320) to rank ninth. From the free throw line, the Wonder Boys shoot .698 as a team (226-of-324) to rank sixth.
 
Individually, the Wonder Boys have three players averaging double figures in scoring and are led by Taelon Peter and his 19.8 ppg. Cassius Brooks and Tommy Kamarad are next in scoring at 11.9 ppg each, respectively.
 
Josh Mitchell is the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 6.8 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, Kade Shaffer leads the team and is averaging 3.4 assists per game.
 
Defensively, the Wonder Boys are led in steals by Peter at 2.3 steals per game and in blocks by Mitchell at 1.9 blocks per game.
 
The Wonder Boys are coached by Mark Downey, who is in his fourth season back on the sidelines at Tech after a 10-year hiatus. In his first stint, Downey patrolled the sidelines at Tech for four seasons from 2006-07 - 2009-10. In his final season, Downey guided the Wonder Boys to a program-record 30 wins and during that season, the Wonder Boys were ranked No. 1 in NCAA DII for the first time ever.
 
In his time at Tech, which is now in its eighth season overall, Downey has amassed a 123-91 record. Overall, Downey is in his 17th season as a head coach and has career record of 289-197.
 
SCOUTING THE BOLL WEEVILS
Arkansas-Monticello is 8-8 overall this season and are 6-5 in GAC play. The Boll Weevils have won three-straight games with all three coming at home. Their most-recent win came this past Thursday against Southern Arkansas.
 
Statistically, the Boll Weevils average 65.0 ppg and rank 12th in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Boll Weevils rank second in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 66.6 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Boll Weevils are 12th in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .444 (371-of-836) and limit their opponents to a .460 mark (354-of-770) to rank eighth.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Boll Weevils shoot at a clip of .316 (83-of-263) to rank 11th in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .363 (113-of-311) to rank 10th. From the free throw line, the Boll Weevils shoot .696 as a team (215-of-309) to rank seventh.
 
Individually, the Boll Weevils have two players averaging double figures in scoring. They are led by Isaac Jackson and his 20.7 ppg. Zane Nelson is next and rounds out double-figure scoring at 20.0 ppg. Both Jackson and Nelson are in the top-three in scoring in the GAC.
 
Wesley Booker is the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 5.9 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, Nelson leads the team and is averaging 2.9 assists per game.
 
Defensively, the Boll Weevils are led in steals by Nelson at 2.2 steals per game and in blocks by Timur Krupalija at 0.5 blocks per game.
 
The Boll Weevils are coached by Chad Tapp, who is in his third season as head coach at Arkansas-Monticello and his 14th overall. At UAM, Tapp is 29-43 and overall, he is 194-203.
