FIRST SERVE
A few days after playing their first conference match of the season, the Arkansas Tech volleyball team is set to play their final non-conference weekend of the season by taking on Rockhurst and William Jewell.
 
With both opponents from the highly-competitive Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), the Golden Suns will first take on Rockhurst in Kansas City on Friday night at 6 p.m. The following day, the Golden Suns will make the short drive over to Liberty, Mo. to take on William Jewell at 2 p.m.
 
TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Golden Suns enter this weekend looking to build off their first win of the season this past Tuesday, an impressive 3-0 sweep of Arkansas-Monticello at home. The win got the Golden Suns off to a 1-0 start in Great American Conference play and in home matches.
 
Offensively, the Golden Suns are averaging 10.4 kills/set and have a .141 team attack percentage. They have two players with at least 40 kills and are led by Savannah Meyer and her 53 kills. Jordan Clouse has the highest attack percentage on the team at .317 (24k-60att-5err).
 
The Golden Suns' primary setter has been Gracie Palmer. Of the 264 teams assists registered thus far, Palmer has accounted for 156.
 
Defensively the Golden Suns are averaging 12.7 digs/set and 1.2 blocks per set. Jamie Myrick leads the team in digs with 96. Lauren Grier currently leads the team in blocks with 21.0.
 
The head coach of the Golden Suns is Kera Coleman. She is in her sixth year as head coach of her alma mater and seventh overall. In her time at Tech, Coleman is 71-68. Overall, she's 90-80.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Rockhurst
Rockhurst enters Friday night's match against Tech 6-1 overall. Their lone loss of the season came last weekend when the Hawks were swept by Lynn University in the first day of the Hyatt Place Bash at the Beach. Rockhurst would bounce back the rest of the weekend and won matches against Nova Southeastern and Palm Beach Atlantic.
 
Offensively, the Hawks are averaging 12.9 kills/set and have a .243 team attack percentage. They have four players with at least 50 kills and are led by Sarah Pyle and her 82 kills. Sydney Razler has the highest attack percentage among prominent attackers on the team at .360 (51k-111att-11err).
 
The Hawks have split time at the setter position among a pair of setters having at least 100 assists. Sarah Montague currently leads the team with 157 assists.
 
Defensively the Hawks are averaging 14.7 digs/set and 2.3 blocks per set. Maureen Reilly leads the team in digs with 138. At the net, the Hawks have three players that have registered at least 25.0 blocks. Ali Olson is the team-leader with 31.0 blocks.
 
The head coach of the Hawks is Trent Jones. He is in his fourth year as head coach at Rockhurst and his seventh overall. In his time at Rockhurst, Jones has a 58-28 record. Overall, his career head coaching record is 122-56.
 
William Jewell
William Jewell enters this weekend with a 4-4 overall record. Just prior to taking on Tech on Saturday afternoon, William Jewell will take on Rockhurst as part of the tri-match format. The Cardinals will be entering the weekend with a lot of momentum on their side as they had a successful weekend at the Washburn Invitational.
 
At the invitational, the Cardinals were swept by Oklahoma Baptist to open up the weekend, but bounced back to pick up wins against Christian Brothers, Harding and Midwestern State.
 
Offensively, the Cardinals are averaging 13.1 kills/set and have a .239 team attack percentage. They have four players with at least 50 kills and are led by Bella LaPorta and her 128 kills. Alex Dvorak has the highest attack percentage among prominent attackers on the team at .343 (65k-140att-17err).
 
The Cardinals have split time at the setter position among a pair of setters having at least 100 assists. Samantha Thompson currently leads the team with 158 assists.
 
Defensively the Cardinals are averaging 13.6 digs/set and 1.8 blocks per set. Alexis Nunn leads the team in digs with 102. At the net, the Cardinals have three players that have registered at least 15.0 blocks. Dvorak is the team-leader with 23.0 blocks.
 
The head coach of the Cardinals is Samantha Williams. She is in her third season overall at William Jewell but is in her first season as the interim head coach.
