RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The first two weeks of the 2023 regular season are in the books and after spending the last two weekends on the road, the Arkansas Tech volleyball team is set to make its highly-anticipated home debut on Tuesday night against Arkansas-Monticello.
 
Not only will the match be the Golden Suns' home-opener, it will also be their first Great American Conference match of the season. Tech will still have one more weekend of exclusive non-conference action coming up before jumping full force into their conference slate next week.
 
TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Golden Suns enter Tuesday night's match against UAM in search of their first victory of the season. Over the first two weekends of play, the Golden Suns have been competitive in their matches, but have not been able to get over the hump just yet. Their best all-around match of the young season came in their first match of the previous weekend against Minot State. In that match, the Golden Suns played their first five-set match of the season, narrowly falling to the Beavers.
 
Offensively, the Golden Suns are averaging 10.0 kills/set and have a .120 team attack percentage. They have two players with at least 40 kills and are led by Kaitlyn Neal and her 42 kills. Jordan Clouse has the highest attack percentage on the team at .317 (24k-60att-5err).
 
The Golden Suns' primary setter has been Gracie Palmer. Of the 229 teams assists registered thus far, Palmer has accounted for 138.
 
Defensively the Golden Suns are averaging 12.4 digs/set and 1.1 blocks per set. Jamie Myrick leads the team in digs with 86. Lauren Grier currently leads the team in blocks with 18.0.
 
The head coach of the Golden Suns is Kera Coleman. She is in her sixth year as head coach of her alma mater and seventh overall. In her time at Tech, Coleman is 70-68. Overall, she's 89-80.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Arkansas-Monticello
Like Tech, UAM enters Tuesday night's match in search of their first win of the season as they are currently 0-9. Unlike the Golden Suns, however, the Cotton Blossoms have yet win a set, having been swept in all nine matches played.
 
Offensively, the Cotton Blossoms are averaging 8.1 kills/set and have a .043 team attack percentage. They have two players with at least 30 kills and are led by Jasmine Welton and her 54 kills. Abrielle Jordan has the highest attack percentage among prominent attackers on the team at .118 (37k-119att-23err).
 
The Cotton Blossoms have split time at the setter position among a trio of setters and all three have at least 50 assists. Bruna Silva currently leads the team with 65 assists.
 
Defensively the Beavers are averaging 12.1 digs/set and 1.1 blocks per set. Stasha Adams leads the team in digs with 114. At the net, Abrielle Jordan leads the team with 20.0 blocks.
 
The head coach of the Cotton Blossoms is Katrina English. She is in her second year as head coach at UAM and her sixth overall. In her time at UAM, English has a 10-28 record. Overall, her career head coaching record is 74-88.
