BENTONVILLE, Ark. - The Arkansas Tech softball team falls to Southeastern 0-4 in the first round of the Great American Conference Tournament. The Golden Suns finish their 2023 season with a winning 28-24 overall record and a winning conference record of 17-15.
Getting the start in the circle for the game was 2023 All-GAC Second Team member
Bailey Buffington.Â
Through the first two innings of action, neither side was able to put up a run against the other. Buffington had allowed a couple of hits through two, but held her ground and did not allow the Savage Storm to push through any runs.Â
In the top of second,
Makenzie Addis would try and lift the Golden Sun offense with a leadoff double down the left field line, but Southeastern would strike back with three straight outs.Â
Southeastern would make their offensive strike in the bottom of the third inning,Â
The inning began with back-to-back doubles to score the first run of the game for the Savage Storm. Following the leadoff doubles, Buffington would issue a walk to the next hitter in the Savage Storm lineup, leading to
Kaila Cartwright coming into the game to close it out for the remainder of play.
After a sac bunt advanced runners ahead to second and third, the bases would be loaded as Cartwright would issue a walk in the next at-bat. Following the walk. a passed ball by Tech would allow the runner on third to score to take a 2-0 lead over the Golden Suns.Â
The Golden Suns would get back on defense in the next play as
Brooke Prewitt would throw a bullet down to Addis at home plate for the great defensive out to stop the Savage Storm from putting another run on the board for the second out of the inning.
Southeastern managed to score another run with a single up the middle, but a fielding error by the Golden Suns would allow a second run to score as Southeastern would get out of the third inning with a 4-0 lead.Â
The Golden Suns would find their second hit of the game from
Kacie Gibbins in the top of the fifth with a one out double, but Southeastern would manage to stop the Golden Sun offense as Gibbins would be left stranded at third.
Arkansas Tech's final hit of the afternoon came from a one out single to left field by
Brooke Prewitt to try and get the offense going one more time, but the Savage Storn would again stop Tech from scoring,
Cartwright would close out the game in the circle as the Golden Suns would ultimately fall 0-4 in their final game of the 2023 season to Southeastern Oklahoma.
