DURANT, Okla. - The Arkansas Tech softball team fell to Southeastern 0-4 in their opening game of this weekends GAC series on the road on Friday afternoon. Following the game, the Golden Suns are 28-18 overall with a 17-10 record against Great American Conference opponents.
To start this afternoon's contest against the Savage Storm, the Golden Suns would open strong as
Brooke Prewitt would crush a leadoff double to try and get her team a solid start. However, Southeastern quickly got the next three hitters in the Golden Sun order out to send out their offense for the first time in the game.
Getting the start in the circle for the Golden Suns was
Bailey Buffington.
In her first inning of work, Buffington would allow two hits by Southeastern, but would still hold them to no runs for the inning keeping the score tied 0-0 heading into the second inning of action.
Buffington would come back in the bottom of the second and put in a brilliant inning of work getting three straight hitters out, two of which went down on swinging strikeouts to keep the Golden Suns in the fight against Southeastern.
Arkansas Tech would record their final two hits of the day in the top of the third inning as
Makenzie Goins would hit a solid double down the left field line and
Dani Lindsey would connect a single to the shortstop to put two on base for Tech. The Savage Storm would survive another frame as the Golden Suns would be unable to score once again.
Southeastern would score their first two runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning off a single that scored a runner at second as well as an error by the Tech shortstop that would score an unearned run to make it a 0-2 deficit.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Savage Storm would score another run of a sacrifice bunt and then their final run of the game would be scored in the bottom of the sixth inning on a solo homerun to take a 4-0 lead after six full innings of action.
Ultimately, the Golden Suns offense would be held the final four innings of play as the Savage Storm would get three straight hitters out for the last four innings leading to the 4-0 victory over Tech in game one.
