RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - The Arkansas Tech softball team dropped their final game of the weekend to Arkansas-Monticello 2-4 on Sunday afternoon. Following today's game, the Golden Suns are now 23-15 overall with a 12-7 record in conference play.
Bradi Basler would get the start in the circle for the Sunday afternoon contest.
Arkansas-Monticello got on the board quickly in the top of the first inning. A double would score the first two runs for the Cotton Blossoms. Following the double, they would hit a single through the left side that would give them a 3-0 lead over Tech following the top of the first.
The Cotton Blossoms would tack on their final run of the game in the top of the third inning with a single to left field that would put them ahead 4-0.
In the bottom of the frame, the Cotton Blossoms would send
Abigail Lochala to first after hitting her on the pitch.
Kaylyn Aguirre would come in to pinch run for Lochala on first base. Following the walk to Lochala,
Shelby Chavers was up at the plate for her second at-bat of the day.
Chavers would get things started in the bottom of the third with a single to third base on a bunt to push ahead Aguirre to second and put herself on first.
Brooke Prewitt would then hit into a groundout, but now before both Chavers and Aguirre could advance ahead to put both in scoring positions on second and third.
Makenzie Goins would be dealt a strikeout as
Makenzie Addis now approached the plate in a two out situation.
Addis would crush a long three run homer over the left field wall to get her team back in the game as they still trailed 3-4 after three full innings of action.
To begin the top of the fourth inning,
Kaila Cartwright would talk over for Basler in the circle and would close out the game there.
Cartwright pitched a near perfect performance retiring every single batter, 12 straight, in the Cotton Blossom order she faced over 4.0 innings of work. She struckout six total batters across those four full innings of action in the circle.
Neither offense could get anything going until the bottom of the seventh. The Golden Suns would load the bases with two outs, but the Cotton Blossoms would barely edge out the win retiring the final Golden Sun hitter to escape with the 4-3 win over Tech.
