MAGNOLIA, Ark. - The Arkansas Tech softball team picks up a 3-1 victory on the road against Southern Arkansas to win a big time GAC series 2-1 over the nationally recognized Muleriders. Following today's action, the Golden Suns advance to 25-16 overall with a 14-8 record against Great American Conference opponents.
Getting the start in the circle for the Golden Suns in the final game of the series was
Bailey Buffington.Â
Tech started the game hot as
Brooke Prewitt crushed a leadoff triple down the right field line to set a strong opening tone for the Golden Suns. The Golden Suns would take advantage of Prewitts leadoff triple position as a single down the left field line by
Dani Lindsey two at-bats later would score Prewitt and let Tech strike the board first with a 1-0 lead after the top of the frame.
In her first inning of the game in the circle, Buffington started strong getting three of her first four batters out to quickly put the game into the second inning. Buffington would continue the performance in the bottom of the second inning getting three straight outs to, once again, bring a rapid conclusion to the bottom of the frame and take offense away from the Muleriders to begin the game.
To start the top of the third inning, Lindsey would record her second hit of the afternoon with a leadoff single to third base and would advance to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Makenzie Addis to get her in scoring position for the Golden Suns.Â
Following the at-bat by Addis,
Jessica Williams would drive in Lindsey with an RBI single to left centerfield to give the Golden Suns a 2-0 lead. They would keep the 2-0 advantage heading into the fourth inning of action.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Golden Suns opted to go for a different look in the circle as
Kaila Cartwright would come in to replace Buffington in the circle to begin the inning.Â
Southern Arkansas would get their one and only run of the afternoon in the bottom of the fourth inning off a leadoff solo homerun that would still have Tech ahead 2-1. Cartwright would collect her composure and finish the inning out not giving up any more runs to keep Tech on top heading into the fifth inning,Â
The bottom of the fifth inning would begin with another change in the circle for Tech as
Bradi Basler would replace Cartwright. Basler would finish out the game in the circle.Â
She quickly got to work in the circle picking up three straight outs and sending one hitter in the Mulerider order down swinging to bring a swift end to the fifth.Â
The Golden Suns would score their final run of the game in the top of the sixth inning that began with a two out single up the middle by
Shelby Chavers. Following her hit, Chavers would steal second to put herself in scoring position. Prewitt would deliver the final blow to the Muleriders with an RBI double to centerfield to bring around Chavers and give the Golden Suns a 3-1 lead.
From here, Basler would close out the final two innings in the circle and put a stopper on the SAU bats to help give the Golden Suns their 3-1 win and the 2-1 series win. Basler picks up the win for the day, which moves her to 8-7 on the year.
