ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech women's tennis team got major contributions from the middle-to-bottom of their singles lineup in their 4-3 win over Henderson State in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.
After dropping the doubles point with Henderson taking flights one and three, the Golden Suns (4-3) needed strong play from their singles lineup to secure the win, and that's exactly what they got.
Isabella Major, who was playing at No. 6 singles, was the first to finish her singles match and knotted the team match with a win, 6-1, 6-4. The Reddies (3-3) then went up 2-1 in the match as they were victorious in No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-3.
Madalena Amil then evened the match once more as she won her No. 4 singles match, 6-1, 6-3. Not long after that, the Golden Suns took their first lead at 3-2 with current GAC Player of Week, Aastha Dardgude's win at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-3.
Flight five singles saw the clincher of the match as
Sofia Beggiatto overcame a set one loss, 1-6. Her bounce back saw Beggiatto win set two 6-4 and then the tie-breaker, 6-3.
The Reddies garnered another point in the match to bring the final score to 4-3 with a tightly-contested win at No. 2 singles.
The Golden Suns will now prepare for a home match this coming Monday morning against Southwest Minnesota State. The match is slated to begin at 10 a.m. from the Chartwells Women's Sports Complex.
