Tipping Off
The conference portion of the 2022-23 regular season slate for the Arkansas Tech women's basketball team has ended as the Golden Suns have secured the No. 4-seed in the Great American Conference Tournament and finish the season with a winning 14-12 overall record and 12-10 GAC record.
Looking ahead, the Golden Suns now prepare and get set for the opening round of the GAC Tournament at FireLake Arena in Shawnee, Okla. as they are set to face No. 5-seeded Oklahoma Baptist on Friday at noon.
During the course of the 2022-23 regular season, the Golden Suns played the Bison of Oklahoma Baptist twice and swept the regular season series winning the first one at home 76-50 and then taking the road game in Shawnee by a final score of 67-52.
In the all-time series histories, this will be the 15th matchup all-time between the Golden Suns and Bison. In terms of the all-time series record, the Golden Suns hold a 10-4 overall advantage over Oklahoma Baptist.

Tech Tidbits
The Golden Suns finish out Great American Conference play with a 14-12 overall record and a conference record of 12-10. In the GAC standings, the Golden Suns finish the season in fourth place. In the Golden Suns most recent win on Senior Day, they dispatched Southern Arkansas at home with an explosion of offensive prowess that lead to their highest scoring game of the season dropping 94 points against the Mulerider.
Statistically, this year, the Golden Suns are averaging 70.7 ppg and rank third in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Golden Suns rank eighth in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 66.7 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Golden Suns are sixth in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .411 (695-of-1690) and are limiting their opponents to a .365 mark (606-of-1660) to rank second in the GAC.
From beyond-the-arc, the Golden Suns are shooting at a clip of .244 (104-of-426) to rank 12th in the GAC, while their opponents are making three-pointers at a mark of .334 (189-of- 566) to rank 12th. From the free throw line, the Golden Suns are shooting .676 as a team (344-of-509) to rank 11th.
Individually, the Golden Suns have two players averaging double figures in scoring. Unanimous 2022-23 All-GAC First Team member and reigning D2CIDA National Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Week Jalei Oglesby leads the way at 21.0 ppg, which is the best scoring average in the Great American Conference and the 12th best average in the country across all NCAA Division II players. Oglesby is also shooting a stellar 52.0% (222-of-427) from field goal range this season, which is the second highest mark in the conference. She is also second in the conference in total rebounding averaging 9.2 per game, and top-ten in free throw percentage in the GAC.
2022-23 All-GAC Honorable Mention Kaley Shipman has also provided a big lift as the other double figure scorer for the Golden Suns at 12.7 ppg. The Mountain View, Ark. native is third in the GAC in free throw percentage knocking down .855 (65-of- 76) of her shots from the charity stripe on the year. Shipman is also top-20 in the GAC in assists where she averages 2.3 assists per game for the Golden Suns this season.
The Golden Suns are coached by Dave Wilbers, who is in his 16th season on the sidelines at Tech. A member of the 300-career win club, Wilbers has a career record of 342-120.
Overall in his time at Tech, Wilbers has kept the Golden Suns as perennial contenders in the GAC, the region and the nation, winning 20 or more games nine times, capturing seven conference regular championships, five conference tournament championships and advancing to nine NCAA Regional Tournaments.

Scouting the Bison
Oklahoma Baptist finished their 2022-23 regular season run with a 16-12 overall record and a 12-10 record against Great American Conference opponents. In the conference standings, the Bison finished right behind the Golden Suns at the fifth spot. They will enter Friday's quarterfinal matchup on a two game winning streak.
Statistically this season, the Bison average 63.8 ppg on offense to rank tenth in the GAC and give up an average of 64.9 ppg to rank fourth in the GAC. In terms of field goal percentages, Oklahoma Baptist shoots at a .417 clip overall (625-of-1499) to rank fifth in the conference and are allowing opponents to shoot at a mark of .386 (658-of-1704) to rank fifth.
From three-point range, the Bison shoot at a .353 clip (158- of-447) to rank second overall in the GAC and are allowing their opponents to shoot .326 (224-of-688) from range to rank ninth. At the charity stripe, the Bison shoot .778 (379-of-487) to rank first in the GAC.
Individually, the Bison boast three players scoring in double figures and are led by Jaedyn Getman who is scoring 13.3 ppg. Madison Chambers and Erika Ankney are the other double figure scorers for the Bison and are averaging 12.2 and 16.9 ppg, respectively. Ankney has not made an appearance for the Bison since their game against Northwestern Oklahoma back on January 21 earlier this year.
The Bison are coached by Bo Overton, who is entering his third season as the head coach of the women's basketball program at Oklahoma Baptist.
