Golden Suns blank Northwestern Oklahoma on the road to pick up weekend series sweep

ALVA, Okla. - The Arkansas Tech softball team pulled off the weekend conference series sweep on Saturday morning on the road at Northwestern Oklahoma State taking game three of the weekend 5-0. Following today's action, the Golden Suns advance to 19-11 overall with a 9-4 record against Great American Conference opponents.

Through the first two innings of action, neither team would be able to put a run on the board to try and get out to the early advantage.

In the top of the third inning, the Golden Suns would find their opportunity and strike the scoreboard. The inning began with a leadoff walk to Kassie Mayberry, who would advance to second off a sac bunt by Shelby Chavers

Following the sac bunt by Chavers, Kaylyn Aguirre would reach first base on a fielders choice and would also advance to second as Mayberry would go to third putting two in scoring postion for the Golden Suns.

The next bit of action would come from a walk to Makenzie Goins that would load the bases for Arkansas Tech as Makenzie Addis approached the plate. Addis would drive in the first two runs of the game with a single to right field to score both Mayberry and Aguirre and give the Golden Suns the 2-0 lead after three full innings of action.

Making the start in the circle for Tech would be Bailey Buffington who would hold off the Northwestern Oklahoma bats in the bottom of the frame, preventing them for answering back with runs of their own.

To start the top of the fourth inning, Lillee Mahan would hit a one out single to the Ranger shortstop and would proceed to steal second to put herself in scoring position for Arkansas Tech as Mayberry headed to the plate for another at-bat.

Mayberry would crush a double to left field to score Mahan and extend the Golden Suns lead ahead to 3-0 after four innings of play.

Once again Buffington would put in work in the circle in the bottom of the frame staving off the Ranger hitters once again.

The Golden Suns would score their final runs of the day in the top of the fifth inning. Prewitt would start things off with a leadoff single to second base and would reach second off a sac bunt by Goins. After a lineout that now put two outs on the board for the inning, Prewitt would steal third.

Prewitt would strike home plate after a big single to left field by Jessica Williams putting the Golden Suns up 4-0. Following the single by Williams, Brooklyn Haney would come in as a pinch runner to replace Williams on first base.

Haney would put herself in scoring position stealing second base, which the Golden Suns would capitalize on as Abigail Lochala hit a single to centerfield to score Haney and give the Golden Suns their 5-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Kaila Cartwright would come in to replace Buffington in the circle and would close out the game there, also holding the Rangers to no runs to give the Golden Suns a 5-0 shutout win in the weekend series finale.
