RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech women's tennis team is off to a 2-0 start in Great American Conference play as they picked up their second league win in as many days on Wednesday with a 7-0 shutout victory over Ouachita.
Doubles action was a clean sweep for the Golden Suns (7-3, 2-0 GAC) as they only lost four games across the three matches. Flight two pairing of
Sofia Beggiatto and
Aastha Dargude blanked their opponents 6-0, while the flight three duo of
Madalena Amil and
Melanie Griffiths won 6-1. At the top-flight,
Daniela Baez and
Lea Grinberg won 6-3.
Singles play went just as well for Tech as all six matches were won in straight sets.
Isabella Major was first to win her match at No. 6, winning 6-1, 6-3. Dargude was not far behind at No. 3 with a 6-1, 6-1 win.
Madalena Amil then clinched the match for Tech at No. 4 with a 6-3, 6-1 win.
Beyond that, the match played on with Baez winning at No. 2. 6-0, 6-1 and Beggiatto winning at No. 5, 6-2, 6-2. Grinberg put the finishing touches on the clean sweep with a 7-5, 6-1 win in her No. 1 singles match.
The Golden Suns will now prepare for their spring break trip next week. This year, the Golden Suns will be heading to California where they are slated to play four matches in four days against a wide range of opponents. The week of West Coast action is scheduled to start on Tuesday, March 21 against College of the Desert.
