Beggiatto wins at No. 5 singles as No. 39 Golden Suns lose to DI Dartmouth

LA JOLLA, Calif. – On Wednesday, the newly nationally-ranked No. 39 Arkansas Tech women's tennis team played the first of three matches over three days during their spring break trek out west to California and took on Division I Dartmouth College at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club.

The Golden Suns (7-4) would ultimately drop the match 6-1, but were overall competitive with the Big Green (4-8).

Dartmouth nabbed the doubles point with mirroring 6-2 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. The top-flight doubles match went unfinished with Dartmouth's top pairing of Ashley Hess and Chidimma Okpara up on Tech's top team of Lea Grinberg and Daniela Baez 5-2.

In singles action, the Golden Suns would take at least one game in each set of five of the six matches that took place. The closest non-winning singles matches came at No. 2 and No. 4 as Baez (2) and Madalena Amil (4) each recorded results of 2-6, 4-6.

The lone point for the Golden Suns came at No. 5 singles with Sofia Beggiatto winning the third-set tiebreaker, 10-8. The Argentina native lost the first set 2-6, but bounced back in set two with a 6-3 win to force the tiebreak.

The Golden Suns will continue to test themselves with a match on Thursday afternoon against No. 24-ranked Azusa Pacific. First-serve for the match is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. CDT. Tech will then conclude their spring break trip with a second-straight match against a ranked opponent as they will take on No. 40-ranked Concordia-Irvine on Friday.
