Golden Suns sweep Arkansas-Fort Smith

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech women's tennis team got back in the win column on Monday afternoon as they swept past Arkansas-Fort Smith, 7-0, out at the Chartwells Women's Sports Complex.

The emphatic win served as welcomed bounce back for the Golden Suns, who had dropped their last three matches. All three of those matches, however, were against Division I opponents and Tech more than held their own in each match.

On Monday, the Golden Suns battled windy conditions out on the court, but symbolically, the sun was out and shining throughout the entirety of the match.

In doubles action, the Golden Suns won by forfeit at No. 3 due to the availability of only five players for UAFS, but needed their win at No. 2 doubles to secure the point after the Lions edged out Tech in flight one doubles, 7-6(7). At flight two, the Golden Suns' pairing of Aastha Dargude and Sofia Beggiatto returned the favor with a win by the score.

In singles action, it was a clean sweep of all six matches. Flight six was forfeited by UAFS again due to their five available players.

Lea Grinberg made quick work of her top-flight match, winning 6-2, 6-0. Isabella Major then clinched the match for the Golden Suns at No. 5 singles. She would win her match 6-3, 6-2.

The remainder of the singles matches were played out to competition and Madalena Amil was next to finish. She won her No. 4 match, 6-0, 2-6, 1-0(2). Daniela Baez then won her No. 2 match, 6-2, 7-5. Dargude finished things off with a win at No. 3, 6-2, 6-4.

The Golden Suns will now prepare for a road match at Henderson State on Thursday, March 2. The match is a non-conference match and is slated to begin at 2 p.m. in Arkadelphia.
