Golden Suns drop pair of tightly-contested matches with UCA

CONWAY, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech women's tennis team tested themselves early in their spring season with a pair of road matches on Saturday at Division I UCA. Tech would ultimately drop both matches, but played UCA extremely close, narrowly losing 4-3 and 4-2.

MATCH ONE
In the first match, the Golden Suns (2-2) lost the doubles point as all three matches were won by the Sugar Bears (5-4). None of the doubles matches were shutouts, however and No. 2 doubles was the closest-contested one as the duo of Sofia Beggiatto and Aastha Dargude fell 7-5. During that match, Beggiatto suffered an injury that effected the lineup in singles play as she was unable to play at her scheduled No. 5 match.

In singles, UCA jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the match with straight-sets wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.

The Golden Suns got on the board with their first point at No. 1 singles as Lea Grinberg won her match by opponent retirement. UCA then clinched the match with a win at No. 3, but the remainder of the match was played out and Tech would pick up wins at No. 2 and No. 4.

Daniela Baez got the win at No. 2 and beat her opponent, 7-2, 2-6, 10-7. Madalena Amil was the winner at No. 4 as she was victorious 7-6(1), 7-6(6).

MATCH TWO
The second match saw the Sugar Bears pick up the doubles point as they won at No. 1 and No. 2 after conceding No. 3 with no players competing.

UCA would then concede No. 6 singles, allowing the match to be tied 1-all.

The Golden Suns then took a 2-1 lead as Grinberg picked up a huge win at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-2.

The Sugar Bears would go on to win the next three singles matchups, all closely-contested to secure the win, 4-2.
