RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech women's basketball team bounced back in an emphatic way on Sunday with a dominating 95-72 win at home against Southern Arkansas.
In what was their final game of the semester, the Golden Suns put together their best overall offensive performance and matched it with a stout defensive effort as well. On the offensive end, the Golden Suns scored at least 20 points in each quarter and finished with a field goal percentage of 57% overall, making 39-of-69 shots from the floor.
The team field goal percentage was the highest in a game this season and the second time that they shot over 50%. Defensively, the Golden Suns limited the Muleriders to just 31% success overall as they went 22-of-70. The defensive field goal percentage was the third-lowest allowed this season.
Another area of domination statistically for the Golden Suns was on the glass. The Golden Suns hauled in over 50 boards for the second time this season and out-rebounded the Muleriders by 20 (52-32).
Leading the way in rebounding for the Golden Suns was
Dana Thompson as she hauled in 12 boards with seven coming on the offensive end. It was her second game with double-digit rebounds. She also notched her first double-double of the season by adding 12 points.
Thompson would be one of four Golden Suns to score in double figures. Leading the way in that regard was
Pacious McDaniel as the freshman set another single-game high as she scored 36 points on 14-of-20 shooting overall from the floor and 7-of-10 from the free throw line. McDaniel also stuffed her stat sheet with eight rebounds, four blocks, two assists and one steal.
The 36-point effort by McDaniel ties for the ninth-most points scored in a game and are the most since former Golden Sun
Jalei Oglesby scored 34 against Southern Arkansas las February.
The Golden Suns will now enter into their mid-season break and will resume their season schedule at home on Thursday, January 4 against East Central. Tip-off for that game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
